Why is math hard for the general populace

I was fairly good in math until I got to Calculus

When it stopped being about simple formulas and equations and it started looking like this...

I just couldn't handle all of that. Still found a way to pass eventually, but I withdrew once on Cal 1 and once on Cal 2 as well

True, but IMO it's a all about attitude. People give up on math as soon as they see it
