why is Midnight Marauders so under rated??

im no tribe called quest stan because i prefer the violent element of hip hop but midnight marauders is right up there with illmatic, Dah Shinin', 36 chambers and Ready to die with the 93/94 era rap shyt in fact i like it better than 36 and ready to die personally.

cover art coulda been better --- it looks like the hands are forming a penis or some weird shyt.

I low key think it's a bit overrated & classic simultaneously. I've said it before, ill say it again, it's the 3rd best Quest album. And that's no knock. But it seems to have reeled in a legion of Stan's online that I wasn't aware existed when we all listening to albums in the streets.

First 2 tribe albums were everywhere in the streets. Midnight was there, but not at the forefront like Wu, Snoop, Black Moon.

At least around my way. 1993 was the year of the new blood.

It is fam. But I get why people who didn't experience Tribe in real time would gravitate towards MM. They were a well oiled machine by album 3 and context is non existent for that fan.

Tribe were unreal. I even like half of Love Movement. I hate half too but that's besides the point. Hahahah.

I was only 12 for the first Tribe. That & Cube RAN the school year. I didn't even "get" Low End Theory at first and was notoriously running around the hood dissing it for like a week. Then it clicked. It should be noted for posterity that the first 2 Tribe albums both got 5MICS in the source back when the source was about something. MM got 4...and i agreed with that rating at the time.

I actually think MM usually gets its props. Beats, Rhymes, and Life is a completely over looked album that I love. Even though consequence got some random verses on there. With the dilla production still a great album.

@Big Mel good points. I heard Tribe after their heyday. in 1998, and it was the singles off Midnight Marauders.

In general, MM is my favorite album because it goes hardest. And like OP said, I'm more into the rugged and rough side of hip hop than the alternative side.

MM > Low End > People's

though Bonita Applebum is my all-time favorite Tribe track, so go figure.
