In truth the only reason is he's honoring a Kickstarter that was in place before they bought them.

Which is pretty cool of him, not only that funding it so the game got polish. The funny thing is people are mad because the PS5 doesn't get a next generation version.

Deal was signed before Microsoft owned the studio and beyond that Microsoft has been open about the fact that they want you playing their games no matter which platform you chose.

There is nothing contractual about kickstarter after the goals are met. It's pretty much all promises.

MS could have easily said nope, sorry no PS4 version and kept it exclusive, or you know made it drop a year or more later like another company.... But not only would that have been bad press, they didn't and they don't really move like that.

Phil clearly loves the franchise and I doubt he'd want to kick people in the balls that pledged to it and love the series like him.

Keeping it off the PS5 was good enough for him.

I mean development for PS5 would have actually taken extra resources. The game already gets the benefit of the extra cash MS puts towards it after the Kickstarter, sinking more money into it for PS5 would be above and beyond "nice"

Starfield and redfall are two different beast. And they are both new Ip's, if people miss out on these in the next year or two they aren't interested in the 1st place.

You do know that Double Fine crowdfunded this game initially. Using their own crowdfunding platform called Fig. Tim Schafer, head of Double Fine, said that he'd honour the agreements made prior to Microsoft's purchase of the studio.
