There's a lot of great R&B out there, it's just not on the radio. People need to stop depending on payola to provide them quality music. Turn the radio off and go to a live show in your area, get on pandora or spotify, hell even MySpaces has some good up and coming artists who deserve more love.

You're being judgmental and are clueless. I am a Neptunes stan. Sadly, you cannot discredit what I am saying though. :umad:
I got exactly what you're saying, but 90% of people are saying that mainstream music is cancer, and not a direct reflection of the real r&b that's available, but what do you proceed to do, Rockford and defend the shyt out of mainstream outlets bu bu bu bu blurred lines, happy.....

Yet everyone in the thread is saying don't bother focusing on mainstream....

In a perfect world I would love to go back to traditional radio and listen to R&B like this

Over this

But the above is what is gonna get the most airplay. It is what it is. It won't stop me and others from enjoying what we wanna listen to. :yeshrug:

I'm not defending mainstream. I am defending R&B and saying it is viable but this current black generation do not support it. All they're fukking with is ratchet rap music. Ariana Grande isn't singing pop, it is R&B. Our people have to support R&B from black people in droves to see a rise once again. Not this singing over DJ Mustard track BS.

a lot of these new acts should be background singers on Dancing with the Stars, not solo artists

I think one of the reasons R&B is face down in the mainstream is because folks are not starting in gospel or the black church. Most of the GOATs started in the black church, hell even Elvis started in the black church. "We losing the recipes"
There is no litmus test for new artists.

Another thing, no musicians, I commend the south for hold it down with the HBCU and High School show bands and for fostering and supporting musicianship. The Midwest got a lot of bands as well. Is it enough though?

These vocalist shouldn't sound like random folks off the street, we pay them to sound 10x better. Who lowered the damn bar and when did this happen?

its not dead...

Yeah bro the establishment(record companies) exploit black artists, then can't wait to repackage the style and sell it to a more viably economic group with disposable income. White middle class youth and young adults, this has happened time and time again from rock to r&b. Heck if the big record executives could push forward a successful white trap house rapper they would....

The genre POP was created to segregate the artists but the style wasn't much different from ours. That's all these big wigs are doing now, giving contemporary r&b to a cac singer then call it pop. :snoop:

Nobody is depending on them we're just saying the R&B voice is not being heard in the mainstream. In the past R&B it was felt and heard by mainstream weather white america accepted or not. I Listen to stuff outside radio but I also give radio a fair shot too. Some of these artist deserve the radio spins. Not everyone gets pandora, spotify or can pay for satellite radio just because it works for you does not mean it works for other people. Remember radio is free of charge and many people have better access to radio and TV. Imagine how many new fans talented artist get pick up.

Turn off your radio

J.Holiday recently dropped some shyt I think

Trey Songz got shyt on and off the radio

TGT is still out there

Even Jon.B dropped some shyt recently I think

Maxwell is about the second series of BlackSummersNight

Tons of women RNB singers out.. That Jhene aiko chick just dropped a CD too

PND just dropped another mixtape and it's not bad for modern RNB

August Alsina's shyt is dope af

John Legend had a top 10 single on the radio just recently

Etc... Just look nikka and get off the radio. In fact, every city should have like a slowjam/RnB type station
