They don't know how to maximize on shyt. They got a beautiful football stadium, decent ball court. They just suck as selling themselves.

When Greg Schiano had the program, Rutgers was ranked several seasons straight and was even in a championship run till they fukked up. Soon as he left, it was game over.

Pretty much a combo of what the other two posters said

It’s decent talent in the area, but why stay in jersey, plus bigger schools poach them with better situations

Should have paid Greg more money

It’s going to take a coach that convinces kids to stay close to home, and drop that brief case off

Yeah really no identity. Southern nah considers themselves a suburb of Philly Northsrn jersey considers themselves a suburb of NYC I don't know what central jersey considers themselves

Is Rutgers closer to NYC or Philly? I think NYC right?

don’t kno much about it outside the school. easton ave has some decent bars of u don’t mind cacs. it’s still pretty diverse despite the cac presence.

central jersey belongs to nyc. i had an internship in the city while i went to school. and yea, nj has no identity at all. sza is from around my neighborhood n u never hear her talk about it (i did tho briefly at a show in 2014 n it brought her to tears). i don’t blame her. having talent means having some sort of identity, and that will get u a lot of hate out here.

kyrie from jersey, and as square as he is, he represents the average jersey breh very well.

Don't Believe the Hype
Born and raised in Jersey. Went to, and ultimately failed out of, Rutgers lol. I love Jersey, but I've moved to the west coast in 2010 - Oregon, then Los Angeles - and I don't intend on ever moving back to NJ.

Rutgers is a great school, but the way it's set up in New Brunswick, with different campuses separated by the river and on the other side of the train tracks, it doesn't feel like a "campus". If I were a dope athlete, I'd rather go to 'Cuse, Ohio State, or somewhere warm.

Also, Jersey folk don't rock that hard for college sports. So, your talents would go under-appreciated.

Miss those grease trucks, tho!

Rutgers football and basketball have no real history of any sustained success. As mentioned before, traditional power programs have come in and raided Jersey talent and they've been doing it for decades. In football, Notre Dame and Penn State probably consider Jersey kids in-state. Before Schiano came along, Rutgers had only appeared in one bowl game and 3 players picked in the top 3 rounds of the NFL draft. In Basketball, again lack of history. It's been 35 years since Rutgers won an NCAA tournament game and almost 30 years since they've been in the tournament period. Rutgers main recruiting base was also a major base for much more successful Big East & ACC programs. And kids who wanted to stay home had a much better in-state option in Seton Hall.

Rutgers is a really good school but the campus is kinda disjointed and in sports they're a small fish in a pond with big fish. And while the pond has gotten bigger since moving to the Big 10, the fish have gotten a lot bigger as well. Rutgers still won't get a full share of the Big 10 TV revenue until 2020-21. They're getting less than 20% this year, slightly less than 30% next year and slightly less than 40% the year after that. On top of that, comparing apparel deals, the total value of the deal Rutgers signed with Adidas last year is 23 times less than the deal Ohio State signed with Nike 2 years ago. They likely won't even be able to compete until they're financially level with the rest of the Big 10 (TV money wise) 3 years from now.

Bottom line not enough advantages and too many disadvantages compared to competitor schools. And until they can find their next Schiano, a legit program building coach who can recruit their ass off, Rutgers will be non-factors and doormats in the Big 10 for the forseeable future in football and basketball.

Maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like the Northeast is really into college football like that or its not a college football stronghold in general. Rutgers, Temple, Syracuse, Boston College are hit or miss but doesn't really seem to move the needle. MLB, NBA, NFL, College Basketball are great there. Nothing wrong with D1 college football lacking imo..It is what it is I guess.

Cali is NBA, MLB, and College football and basketball but the NFL is hit or miss depending on the era and team. The South worships football and the NBA and MLB is hit or miss. The Midwest is a football stronghold while the NBA and MLB is good depending on the city and team. Pretty solid all around though.

Rutgers should be feasting basketball wise. You are in a basketball hotbed. That's just poor recruiting at its finest.

I've been to the RAC arena, it's one of the most unique places ive watched a ball game. Very tight arena where the crowd is piled up right onto the court. They don't know how to sell anything.
