Why is sampling held in such high regards?

Sampling existed before HipHop:

In European classical, folk, hymns etc...they would do a simple type of sampling by putting new lyrics to old melodies

.
.

whereas those musicians didn't do anything to alter what they sampled "musically", Jazz heads added complexity to this

and what they sampled from previous songs was only a jump-off point to entirely new pieces of music

the similarities with the Jazz (Bebop) practice and later hiphop sampling has been noted

the differences between those forms of sampling and modern sampling as we know it was pioneered from HipHop production and its use of digital samplers and the way they used them

HipHop pioneered the purely cut and paste style of previous recordings to make a collage of samples for a new musical piece

HipHop production via sampling is the audio version of

every musical style genre since the early to mid-1980s now uses HipHops sample-based production style

It is an art in itself. Soul samples are easy. Let's see how diverse your music taste is when you listen to something obscure and flip it to something new.

One of the things that blows my mind about modern production is stuff like auto chords/progression and melody/appregio suggestion where you can single finger plink plonk (or draw) out a few notes and voila, the tech makes you sound like you are an awesome player. Its like Autotune but for composing.

Sure you can say its an evolution of the swing setting that gave your drums a groove based on template but its a quantum leap beyond that. Whats next? You think a thought and the AI interprets your brainwaves and renders it as a song?

Organic creativity, like home cooking, is going the way of the dinosaur...

Yeah... LOL you heard this one yet? shyt is crazy

it wasn't perfect but :mindblown: at the technology to get a "New" Big verse. And if you're able to do that, get a dope MC to write the lyrics and fit something to today's world, f*ck around and get a new BIG album :ahh:

If you use sounds from FL/Reason/Logic/Pro Tools/MPC/Roland/Yamaha, any preloaded sound, etc…

those are technically samples.

If you aren’t playing the instruments live then you are using samples

OP who isn't praising "originality" as you put it. You sound like those racist CACs from 1981 trying to shyt on sampling & hip-hop....

I think one case of this is "Nautilus". Very popular sample among producers. "Daytona 500" and Jeru's "Mind Spray" both sample it. RZA went back to it on a track from 8 Diagrams where it sounds like he sampled the same part as Premo did on "Mind Spray", but it still sounds different.
What’s the RZA produced song

I agree. You have a beat like Jay Z's "aint no nikka' that sounds like just a loop, but it isn't. The sample is impossible to straight loop due to the timing of the musicians so Jaz explained how he chopped it up into 7 pieces and played it out on the MPC
