Why Is Smash Bros Melee Still So Popular?

Because it's the GOAT. The physics, the lightning fast combat, and the insane levels of technical depth coupled with the fact that no other game in the series plays like it puts it on a whole different level. Not even dissing Smash 4, that's a good game too, but Melee's staying power is just

Dumb thread. Melee was the pinnacle of the series. If I had a gamecube I would still be playing it now. I can't get into Smash U. Controls feel.....stiff.

Nintendo actually didn't like how competitive Smash Melee was.

They tried to dumb it down for Brawl because they wanted more of a party game. It was shunned.

Wii U came (which is a dead current system) and they tried to push it last year it went ok.

Now there's no marketing push from Nintendo and the Melee community is still fanatic so Melee stays.

The total control and franticness of Melee keeps it on a high level. Watching Wii U Smash is meh.

Its deeper than just nostalgia. Technically the game is amazing. And it reminds us of a time when games actually took skills to play.
Games nowadays are watered down and washed up because kids have an attention span of about 20 minutes.

Already said but mechanically it's the best game. Not only that, from a spectator standpoint Melee is more exciting to watch. The only thing the Wii U version has over it is characters and graphics. Other than that it's way too slow and it takes forever to take a stock off of someone.

Wii U is good, but Melee's pacing and mechanics are just better.
