The foundation of the South -- as it currently exists -- is rooted in a BLATANT disregard toward any authority conducting itself toward Southerners as if they know what's best for Southerners. Data, facts, etc. be damned.
They are just naturally inclined for rebellion unless one of "theirs" said it. They seem to value the messenger over the message, and down there political/party lines hold more loyalty than some family.
