the Craig David thread got me thinking, why is the UK the pound for pound best music producing nation on Earth

the USA is 5 times as large but doesn't produce 5 times as many quality songs and artists.

there has got to be a reason for it.

Seal here with one of the best live vocal performances of the 2000's

without backing singers :wow:

one voice to rule them all ..

you have the endless list of British pop stars .. even the non A listers like Seal, Sade, Soul II Soul, Maxi Priest, Billy Ocean, UB40, Progidy are at the top of the global game. And that's before you get to global kings like George Michael, Elton John, Williams (Star Wars etc), Bowie, Beatles, Oasis, U2 (sort of), Amy Winehouse, Adelle, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Queen, Rolling Stones, Phil Collins, Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones. I'm skipping the real pop acts like Spice ..., Take ... etc

is it the food? the weather? the teeth? the water?

most of the top singers are brits ... from pop, pop soul, rock, heavy metal, house, reggae, roots, ska .. only things lacking are R&B/rap and that because there aren't enough of us. Even then you have Loose Ends, Soul to Soul ...

every genre ..

Simba, Mufasa, Darth Vadar, Highlander, Thor, Superman etc all bolstered british musicians ..

Lion King

Highlander wouldn't be the same movie.

Star Wars .. imperial march :banderas:

Original Superman :whew:

Thor

all Brits

The UK got the second largest entertainment and media industry in the English-speaking world:manny: it's easier when (Florence and) the machine is behind it all promoting these artists to superstardom.

they all copy of American and Jamaican artists and promoted by large corporations to put them out there. Basically generic pop where you can replace one artist with another and get the same result.
American RnB and rap (back in the day) came from a genuine place of experience and pain which is why the Brits couldn't copy that.

No equivalent of a Duke Ellington or Miles Davis or Louis Armstrong or James Brown

Just imitations of the Black American

you don't think the numbers are impressive.

of course there is on only one james brown but we did have a knock-off copy for a minute a while back.

on the pop jazz front.
