The Xbox One is a reliable alternative to a HTPC. The Xbox One can DLNA stream, has Plex, has voice commands, has a built in Blu-Ray player, Has an IR port if needed. Kinect functions as an IR blaster for your sound system and TV.![]()
Why not just build a mini htpc?? The Xbox One isn't a good alternative. Build you a mini htcp and install Xbox Media Center on it and. You're kidding yourself if you think the XB1 or any console whatsoever(besides the original Xbox with XBMC) is a reliable HTPC.
Xbox media center is the goat app on PC.
The benefits of a HTPC is that it can function as a DVR. The drawback is I can't access my cable provider's On Demand with one. Something I can do over the Xbox One because it's a middle man for my DVR.
This is coming from someone that has both a PC and Xbox One on the same TV. If you're just using media functionality on a TV they Xbox One works fine. In my case I watch a lot of anime so I keep that PC plugged up to the TV as the Xbox One can't handle embedded subs on MKV files yet.

But didn't you tell me that your Walmart had a bunch of ps4s in stock and that they were sold out of xbones?
