1. He was all star status but not elite until he was about 29, and it's rare for an NBA player to improve to elite status that late, so it's hard for people to accept.

2. He played under a prime Duncan for so many years, people are used to him being 2nd or 3rd fiddle.

3. He doesn't dunk.

4. He's French.

5. He's mulatto.

Pretty much.

That's one of the worst misconceptions that the Spurs have had over the years.

I swear you can see who watches games and doesn't by their opinion on the spurs lol

Coli basketball purists will crucify you for calling the Spurs boring but they are. The casual fan aint checkin for the Spurs. Their colors are boring, the city is boring, etc. No one has the Spurs in their top 5 league pass subscription. Tony Parker is a great player but you have to be a die hard fan to want to watch the Spurs when they arent playing against your favorite team.

You talked about everything...except for how they play lol sure the casual fan might be looking for dunks and style, but if you like the actual game of basketball and can appreciate ball movement, execution and just efficient basketball there is no way they are boring. They were kind of boring whne Duncan was still their first option, but ever since Parker and Ginobili are the main threats that's over. I hated the Spurs back then (they beat my Knicks in 99 are were REALLY boring at that time) but their style has changed a lot. Sure, there not the Clippers, and they dont get the same results either.

to me, it's because he doesnt stand out. he doesnt get 15 to 20 assists a game like a stockton/nash/kidd/cp3. he isn't an explosive scorer like rose/westbrook/iverson. he's just steady and consistent. that is all. nothing more nothing less.

  1. Foreign born player
  2. Didnt play amateur (collegiate or HS) ball here
  3. Doesnt follow typical american trends or embrace american culture as much as we would like
He's been better than Deron and CP3 most of his career IMO. Just that CP3 is now (past 2 years) has been coming into his own as one beast of a PG

because he plays on the spurs (and Pops) and they rather win games in that organization than let their players go on media fed ego trips.....
