Why isn't Ghostface not universally seen as top 5?

Every few years a few of our greats sort of start to be forgotten. Kinda like how you rarely see KRS-One in people's top 5 lists anymore, whereas in the 90s he was considered to be a Mount Rushmore kind of guy.

I think Ghost has a good argument to rank high on these kind of lists, but consistency is a weak argument imo. Dude was way too creative at his peak to be reduced to just consistent.

snoop, pac, jay, nas for sure. Last spot could be any of: biggie, common, rakim.

Just the artists I vibe with the most tend to be a little more direct more often than not with some clever lines. Same reason why I like some of the newer artists today and hold cats like T.I in higher regard than most.

Bottom line though, everyone doesn't have to like the same thing. Me personally there's a time and place for everything, my top rappers tend to strike a personal chord more often than not.

I feel you breh but it seems like maybe you've only heard Supreme Clientele, or that's the album that sticks out most to you, because he's been pretty direct in most of his rhymes before and after that album.

What's funny is I like Supreme Clientele a lot. OB4CL I also hold to high regard, but I remember more of the guest spots resonating. But that's personal, just like how I know some people didn't like nas's verse on verbal intercourse.

We're just all wired differently at the end of the day.

Same reaction breh, but I'm sure I've seen it on this board too. Maybe trolling, maybe just big Jay fans, but maybe they also don't like it.

To me, that's one of the greatest hip-hop verses of all-time. I have it ahead of Inspectah Deck on Triumph and possibly one Nas's best right next to NY State of Mind's first verse.

To keep it somewhat relevant to Ghost though, one of my favorite lines by any Wu member: "You can have anything in this world except C.R.E.A.M!" Loved the delivery, took it back to Wu's motto, was in the context of the song and just kept it 100.

Anybody that can't understand what Ghost is talking about on ANY non-Supreme Clientele Ghostface album doesn't understand English. How can you have listened to Ironman and Fishscale and think Ghostface is cryptic or nonsensical? I don't understand.

i think its just the way ghost rhymes words together , lets not pretend, at his peak he was saying crazy stuff the normal rap fan most likely wouldn't get, sure its english and sure most of the stuff you can get an idea of what hes saying but compared to someone like say for example 2pac who lets be honest his rhyming style was abit basic , ghost will say stuff that would go over some peoples heads even on ironman and bulletproofwallets

have you listened to ghost recently? i checked out that wu and lox project plus the brown tape and ghosts rhyming style has regressed alot (come at me bros), its way more easy now to catch everything hes saying on first listen vs Ironman and Supreme Clientele, when you would go back to these albums you could always find new pockets of stuff you didnt catch on first listen.
