Why Isn't Lupita Nyong'o Recieving Any Film Roles, Despite Her Oscar Buzz ?

Right now if your black you can get a support role in a comic movie, tv show, or the walking dead. Everything else is completely white washed.

Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables? Octavia Spencer in The Help? Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer? Mo'Nique in Precious? Support roles do generate a lot of hype for the actress, it usually culminates into other roles, magazine covers, and contracts to endorse specific products. Not only that but she's gorgeous, and generally one of the best role models for young Black girls. How many fine, award-winning, Yale-educated, multi-lingual, famous Black women are out there, supporting Black girls? Give Lupita a chance to have a long and successful career.

Good thing you mentionned them, because I didn't know any of them won anything nor do I remember them being on front pages, etc. Maybe in the US, but over here no one knows (nor cares) that Mo'Nique or Octavia Spencer won anything. Hell I didn't even know who they were before your post, and I saw both movies.

She just might not be taking any roles or hasn't found a script or been offered something that appeals to her and furthers her development. When you achieve a certain amount of notoriety for your work, I think most artists become selective about who they deal with because they're crafting their futures with their career and skill. It's not just a chase to get the most roles, some actors want to work on films that appeal to them, not because they'll get a lot of money or because it'll be popular. To be honest, that when you end up doing your best work...

Her role in 12 years a slave was overhyped . She was great in the movie but Oscar worthy. Glad a black woman won though.

Ryan Coogler needs to hit up her ppl for the Shuri role for Black Panther.

She works with Disney often, don't see why they wouldn't use her for that.

A lot of black actors and actresses are struggling to find work and remain relevant.

I remember people were all up on Lupitas clit so I was hoping she would be able to eat and remain relevant for a while. I think girl is pretty but should grow her hair out some. She is feminine and has a feminine face but the short haircut isn't always becoming on her. I feel the same about Amber Rose. Both Amber and Lupita can pass with a bald head but in this society...having hair is part of a woman being a woman. It's equivalent to a black man having long flowing hair or a short feminine hairstyle with using those hot iron curlers. That could limit her too. But the woman has a beautiful smile and flawless skin.
