Why isn't there a board for books like there is for movies and games?

Probably because unless someone is sticking to the best sellers lists, there a ton of books to be covered, so it would lead to many individual posts about books others would likely have to go out of their way to read in order to converse on. Most movies, shows, and games are mainstream for the most part when discussed.

This scenario reminds me of my love for the IMDB forums before they were shut down, you could watch the most random movie, go to the imdb page, and there would either already be existing threads for the movie or you could create one and come back to a discussion over time. So in that case, you are probably better off finding a site dedicated to that kind of thing.

Why was IMDb shut down ?

They claimed it was due to trolling or a negative environment, which depending on the nature, such as racism, threatens advertisements. I'm sure they also cut some costs with it's removal too. It wasn't something I encountered because I stuck to obscure films but I'm sure it was rampant on black films or anything deemed "sjw". I suppose any steps taken to moderate it would have been more of a headache and more money lost for something they didn't really see as necessary given it was likely generating little traffic.

I just have not found a single replacement for the IMDB forums, and don't think I will. There have been attempts at recreating it but these sites don't have the anywhere near the population IMDB was generating, since it's usually the first movie review page you will see, following a google search.

there is already a books thread in the film room just like there is an anime thread.

you can have a big thread about better call saul because it is current, there are weekly episodes so people can post every week and speculate about what is going to happen.

or you can have an anticipation thread for something like doc strange 2 or top gun:maverick that is pages long before the film even comes out.

what are the popping new books that everyone is reading? there are at least 100,000 books released every year. are we talking ficition or non fiction? sci-fi? fantasy? books about black issues? biographies?

and books don't release chapters weekly like a tv show. so some people would read the book in one night and others might take 3 weeks. makes the discussion more difficult and that's assuming we are all reading the same book
