His music doesn't have enough of a pop element to it to appeal to the general listening audience. Even when he went to MMG and changed his style, he never had a pop sound to his music. Yes he had a song with Lady Gaga in 2008 but nobody knew who he was back then. People mistake him doing r&b joints with selling out. I would argue that Wale's biggest thing was being on No Hands, which crossed over somewhat and did well. All of Wale's biggest songs are r&b songs.

J Cole has a few pop-ish joints. Drake...no explanation needed. Same with Sean.
