saying the government has a monopoly on law enforcement is like saying the government has a monopoly over federal courts
I still dont get it... For clarity I'm defining "monopoly" as: the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.

:leostare:Explain how govt. doesn't have a monopoly over law enforcement/justice...

I'm not going all free market and sh*t, but at the end of the day, govt. is only accountable to govt. :manny: It investigates itself, decides whether its wrong or not and what its punishment should be. If going private changed only that, it would still be well worth it IMHO.
... and police unions are huge lobbyist, not sure where you @JahFocus CS are going with the private firms would lobby stuff.

90% of the fears people have with privatized law enforcement are occurring now under public enforcement. I really cant wrap my head around the opposition to it.

Yeah, police unions are huge lobbyists. I always laughed at police unions, I think it is ridiculous that they have a union. On a side note, see how the police unions are conspicuously absent from all the Right's attacks on "public sector unions?" :mjpls:

I'm not convinced that privatization is the answer, but it is hard to be worse than how things are now :wow:. Has privatized law enforcement been implemented anywhere (even outside the U.S.)?

Wouldnt be any different then what we have now...Except private police forces wouldnt get to investigate themselves and find they did nothing wrong:usure:

I think people just see "privatize" and get shook for no reason. :manny:

Where would the competition come from?

Multiple private law enforcement agencies. Essentially they'd be competing to be hired by governments.

Interesting idea, seems like the logistics would be tricky and I imagine there wouldn't be much competition initially. Also who decides which firm to hire? Is it put to a general vote?

Competition.
Right now the police dept.'s can be as bad as they want, without any fear of being replaced.
Politicians could run on outing the current police force if things were bad.

:whoa:I'm not saying it would solve all the problems, but it would greatly reduce the f*ckery, by increasing accountability, and removing the guaranteed funding.
I only envision bad things coming from a privatized police force. You make some interesting points though and to be honest how much worse could they be :manny:

The same people would prolly be involved someway or another though. Cacs don't feel these cops are doing any wrong and would prolly protest at them losing their jobs.

:dahell:
You're asking me to explain how police protection, and police services are a service?
Well... defining service as an act of helpful activity, help or aid...

Wait... are you :troll:ing me? :aicmon:

This is so dumb.....

Bring forth the antitrust statute that refers to law enforcement as a monopoly
:why:
:snoop:You win breh, I have no clue what you're trying to say or how its relevant.
Just forget the whole monopoly thing.

My point is govt. faces zero competition... thats it. Nothing more, nothing less. I apologize for using the word "monopoly" assuming thats what ruffled you...
