Passing was not the wrong call. People love to assume "Beastmode" would have just walked in if given the ball. The fact is that he was pretty bad in short yardage situations that year, and had just been stopped by Hightower before that play.
Seattle also ran the same play that got them a TD before halftime and the Patriots had it scouted and were prepared for it. Butler made a hell of a play.

Exactly.

At the end of the day, Butler just made a great play. We've seen MANY times where HB's get stuffed at the goal-line. I can see why people think they should have run the ball, but it was far from a guarantee they would have scored there. People act like it was assured it would have been a TD if they rushed it.

This game was a prime example of Montana's greatness. Both teams had stacked defenses. But Joe Montana threw the only TD in the game.

They played again in the NFC Title Game and that's when Montana got hurt. Had he not got hurt in the game, he would've been 5 - 0 in super bowls, because they were going to be the Bills.

Another dime between two defenders against a stacked defense...

You’re right. There’s no guarantee Marshawn scores on a run play.

But there is a guarantee he doesn’t throw a fukkin interception.

The funny thing to me about Brady and Montana is there own coaches didn't necessarily think they were the GOAT and were looking at chances to replace them. That has to count for something :troll: . Mahomes the real GOAT.

Brady had more longevity and won more than Joe

This isn't even a debate anymore...it was over when Tom won #5

#6 and #7 was just the cherry on top

I believe Joe is the GOAT and I don’t need to bring up anything to tear down or disrespect Brady or Mahomes stans.

Al had great careers

(see how easy that is NBA Stan’s)

That piece of :trash: #39" knew the play from his days with the L.O.B. and knew how to jam it up. :pacspit:

I thought it was insane when it happened, but after looking at it and the timeout/down situations, I understand why they passed it.

Seattle had one timeout left. After the previous play, they let the clock go down all the way from 55 seconds to about 20. A failed run would force you to call your last timeout. 3rd down with about 15 seconds left and no timeouts means you almost certainly pass it on 3rd, since a failed run ends the game. You want to have as many chances at possible.

Lynch was no lock to score, he was not a short yardage specialist like a Marcus Allen. He was most dangerous when he got a head of steam and would truck defenders in the open field. He had a couple of goal line fumbles in prior postseason games and struggled in short yardage that season (although the sample size was small).

It made sense, it was just a disastrous result.

Hightower’s tackle on the previous play was huge. Lynch had a decent sized gap and some burst and gained 4 or 5 yards. Hightower needed to do a lot on that play. NE had two big defensive plays in a row.

Montana = football goat

I hated him as a kid.
As dudr was a joy snatcher before i had to learn the hard way afger the bears in 85. This used to be a nfc lead game. Before beli systemically cheated. To give the afc a blueprint. on how to beat.
a nfc team in the superbowl.

Unlike LeBron, Tom Brady thoroughly proved he was better.

Namely, when he came back against Atlanta. Joe is still #2.

I don't like Mahomes but, some people may put him over Joe too. I don't like that little fukker though.

Ignoring the GOAT stuff…

You could make a highlight tape of the hits Joe Montana took during his career. He took a beating. He ought to get credit for being one of the toughest QBs of all time.
Meanwhile Brady bytching and complaining forcing rule changes spearheaded this soft ass shyt we have with QB's today.

When was this? Only QB who ever complianed and got rules changed, was Peyton Manning. QB rule changes were as follows, Carson Palmer after his ripped up knee, reemphasized when Brady got.hurt. Other rule changed when Aaron Rodgers got his.collarbone broken.
