So you think anyone who puts 6 years of their life into serving their community should just be 6 years behind on setting themselves up for retirement?

To get your credential in California you pretty much have to earn your Masters. I started at $32,000 and got up to $53,000. From my B.S. alone I could have started at $60,000 in the private sector and been at $150,000 after 20 years.

So I was leaving a ton of money on the table to teach, and you're saying that I should be 6 years behind on my retirement savings too?

You think we are going to recruit ANYONE good to teach Black kids in the inner city, especially in math, science, CS, or special ed, if we screwing them over like that?
i think teacher salaries should be raised on the front end, and pensions cut, unless someone is willing to fix the broken system in place

last i checked, teachers are adults. you can't save your fukkin money? :childplease:

yea, thats why they work 180 days a year and everyone else works 250 :childplease:
There's charters that go all year. Plus even during the school year teachers work mad hours outside of the normal school day just to ensure class can operate smoothly. Grading papers, planning, prepping class materials. Not a cut and dry job.

you mean after they spend alot of their own money on supplies for their classrooms, because having a surplus of 25,000 dollar Bandaid for our military is much more important than supplying our classrooms with adequately resourced teaching tools. Your own parents are teachers, and you are in here talking like an alt right fukkbag, you are doing it for the trolls right now.

Don’t bother, there is nobody in our society with any sort of sense that looks at teachers like they are lazy scumbags. Arguing with mamba is useless because he obviously a degenerate that claims that he is left leaning on the polarizing, red line issues, but shows everybody where his heart really is on any niche issue. Definition of a front runner.

if you elected me tomorrow the first thing i would do is cut the pentagon from 700 to 400 billion a year. but illinois ITSELF needs that just to cover its pension debt. what about the other 49 states :dead:

I see you, breh. Military spending is a big time issue, especially when it comes to how fukked up our overall budget is, so cutting military spending is a no brainer as a macro issue......but then, getting into the micro of teachers, you pivot all the way breitbart. It’s a good party trick, but we see you.

This is easily the most entitled post I've read in HL.

"Teachers don't deserve social security and retirement benefits because they only work 185 days a year."

.
.
.
"however, if teachers do make more money I deserve that money because my parents didn't abort me."

Get the summer off PAID...

I can't speak for every state but when it comes to NY, as someone who came up through the NYC public school system I can attest that teachers I came across who cared about educating kids were a minority, the majority only cared about tenure and pension...They treated us as if they were providing a daycare service, if they managed to teach you something that was a bonus...I don't know if it still works the same way it used to but once they got tenure they coasted to retirement...Not even molesting kids would get them fired, they still would be on payroll or just moved to another school...

Gym teachers probably have the best job, every gym teacher I had made us walk/run a lap around the track and then tossed the basketballs out...I took weight training every year in HS, yea there was a "teacher" present but we basically taught ourselves how to lift because all he did was watch like a guard in the prison yard...

Hence why I'm always :stopitslime:when teachers complain about pay...

Blame your predecessors for fukking it all up for you...

What do ya'all haters want exactly? Do you honestly think that higher teacher pay isn't a good investment for the nation? Look at the studies for the value that a good teacher adds to each students' life and try to say that with a straight face. Do you think that the pay is high enough to be attracting the most qualified candidates? Look at how tough it is to attract qualified candidates in half the subjects and say that again. Do you think that teachers don't deserve it? Look at what they put up with (especially in the tough districts) and no one would say that.

What teacher works only 180 days? :francis:

Kids go to school 180-185 days minimum, then you have inservice days, you have to come a week early to prep before the school year starts, and then you're working on a heck of a lot of Saturdays and Sundays grading papers and prepping lesson plans throughout the year. I calculated it when I was teaching and conservatively, I worked 2000-2200 hours a year. That's more than the average person putting in 40 hour weeks all year (with holidays and a couple weeks vacation) would put in.

You get what you pay for. As long as you underpay teachers and treat them like crap, you'll get crap. If teaching was such a "nice" job, then you'd have great candidates knocking down the doors to get in.

The truth is, if you're just looking at pay/benefit structures alone, then you basically have enough to attract qualified English, history, and gym teachers (because a lot graduate and their options are limited) but you are incredibly underpaying math, science, and computer science teachers if you want decent candidates at all.

Of course, there's a ton of other things I would do if I really wanted to attract great teachers to the profession (increase professional freedom, increase opportunities for professional development, increase faculty collaboration, eliminate standardized tests). But they're certainly not overpaid and by most metrics underpaid.

Yes, you are consistent in being an alt right idiot, the other day you accused a Latina candidate of being pro illegal immigration without any prove and in a thread about Trump administration racism you attacked Hillary while saying nothing about the racism of the Trump administration.
