Why Oakland's crime statistics are so mind boggling?

The beefing between cities is pointless and dumb, anyway. So what if one place is more "grimy" than the other? You won't get an award for it--just a bad reputation. As a person who actually grew up in Oakland, I know that the hood is nothing to glorify. It sucks having to worry about getting robbed or catching a bullet if I go in rough areas late in the day. Not to mention all of the police cars and ambulances that ride by my house every 5 minutes get annoying as Hell pretty quick.

There are a lot of reasons for it. That area is all very expensive but there always has to be a low income place where the service workers can live. All of the people maintaining hotels and working in restaurants in SF are probably crossing the bridge and living in Oakland.

If you have an area that has a low income level and a lot of young people, crime is going to be a problem. People are going to be desperate and they have nothing to lose.

Majority of the other cities with those kind of numbers are cities that are run down like Camden New Jersey, Flint Michigan, Detroit ect.

I am. Oakland been messed up for years. Public school system is horrible, like a cluster of gladiator schools. Felix Mitchell brought dope in this city and its been downhill every since. I work in Oakland still but you couldn't pay me to live there unless its way above MacArthur blvd or in Piedmont, Rockridge or Montclair district.
