Why Oakland's crime statistics are so mind boggling?

Probably because poor people and minorities are relegated to living in certain neighborhoods with shytty schools and little job prospects and that shyt tends to breed crime.
Sure seems like most crime-ridden areas are surrounded by beautiful suburbs and lots of money.

You go almost anywhere else in a 15 mile radius away from Oakland and it's probably very nice.
I drove up to San Fran when I lived in LA and the drive was beautiful.

But people go out of their way to hit San Fran without going through Oakland.

The Town has always been with the shyts but pump your brakes there...LA was on fire in the 90s especially from 88-95. Back then almost everybody who grew up on a certain block was from the set with only a few exceptions. Oakland gets down but in LA back when you had to really watch your colors dudes gave no damns and behaved as such.

The Bay was just all around grimy. I think I remember at one point East Palo Alto had one of, if not the highest murder per capita. And that place is surrounded by rich ass places like Palo Alto and Los Altos. Small ass town was on some Camden shyt.

Crime has been going down in Oakland tho kinda wack to be painting a pic like it's the 90's...but it persists because basically more and more of the people about that life are being pushed to smaller areas, bumping heads more often. Really crazy most crime can be pinned on a few neighborhoods. And look at that map, SF is in the red too and we know that city has turned into a 100k+ playground...that's just urban living.
