Yeah this is never going to happen. It will never get enough votes to pass Congress.

Unlike healthcare, where everyone needs it, student loan debt doesn't effect the majority.

:lolbron: I'm seeing a lot of "cause I can't get mine, nobody else can get theirs" mentality in this thread. Y'all realize y'all are benefiting from folks making efforts that they themselves never got to have. If there was any way to help people take out their debt or increase their pay, i'd be on that. A increase of quality of life for the lowest of people increases to quality of life for everybody.

College Dropout Statistics [2020]: Average Rates + More
Lots useful information here.:ehh:
Didn't realize private colleges performed so much better in completion rates. I thought it would be only slightly better.
Also those who paid tuition, and have high loans are less likely to drop out. Not sure removing this incentive to complete college is the best solution...

I think if we are not discussing reforming k-12... then we aren't serious about education.
I don't oppose making public colleges free, but tax payers footing the bill for debt individuals voluntarily took on in order to better themselves:camby:

YEP. and this is why i said what i said in that Liz thread. If you keep voting for people who wont do what needs to be done for most of americans. than you're only willing to stand pat and go centrist because you dont really care about your neighbors/fellow citizens like that. you're selfish. it aint no ifs ands or buts about it. you're just selfish. like you said people in this very thread hating on others because you didnt get it or you paid yours off. SO. let these other people cook.

I found out awhile ago at work how Selfish people really are. They hide it with smiles. but that hate is real. I proposed an idea during the economic down turn that could've saved 100 jobs or so, saved the company money in the long run and been a really nice benefit to have in general. it was simple. allow a few 100 people work from home. then have them rent out the office space(which they were talking about doing to some degree anyway).

everyone was loving it. Then i see replies to the suggestion started coming in, "but thats not fair...I got kids.. I can't work from home, my kids goto school by my job."

I'm like lady if you dont stop. you are blessed with children. sure you moved them close by your job. so what. why are you hating on all of our convenience? people started saying they didnt want it. i'm like if you dont want it. just shut up and dont be part. no need to try to throw a monkey wrench in it. then i realize. thats that hate. they dont even know why they're hating to be honest. just pure hate. its in everyone, which is why you have to pay close attention to yourself at all times to keep that hater from surfacing.

thats still a dumb solution. scare you with crazy loans. stop it dead.

of course private schools perform better. guess who ends up at those schools? the well off that were probably in some well off private school from k-12. or the well off public school in the good neighborhood.

and who said we were not talking about reforming k-12? no one took that off the table. you can walk and chew gum at the same time cant you dead?

Its not a solution, its an incentive that is already in place.
People invest in bettering themselves then reap the reward.
It needs to be looked at as an investment and not just something your supposed to do, with the best ROI in mind when you enroll. This is a failure public education IMO.

Think about it...if everyone can go to school, schools will be more selective. There's not enough space.

The admissions requirements will get tougher and better students will proceed

Schools using test scores to be selective have already been hit with the diversity hammer... because that system, for whatever reason(s) appears to favor whites and Asians.
We have countless examples of it.
Terrible idea to me.

What's the Average High School GPA?
Average High School GPAs by Gender and Ethnicity
NCES also provided some interesting (and a bit upsetting) statistics on how average high school GPA differs with regard to gender and ethnicity:

Average GPA By Gender:
  • Males: 2.90
  • Females: 3.10
Average GPA By Ethnicity:
  • Asian/Pacific Islander: 3.26
  • White: 3.09
  • Hispanic: 2.84
  • Black: 2.69

:mjgrin:Something tells me 3.0 will be the cut off.

I guess we gonna need to more teachers then, to handle the influx.

Online classes help with that too

so if that is the case, then so does all school k-12. but we know that isnt the case. stop it dead.
the investment is your time. as if that isnt worth a thing.

you do realize i could go get a job fresh out of highschool and start padding my resume with experience. have zero debt and be ahead of the game. But no, i'll take my time out of my day to sit in someone's classroom and learn a subject or 4. TIME = MONEY my friend. did you forget that?

and if we want to play the investment game. fine. make these companies that are requiring everyone to have a degree in non doctor, engineer, lawyer, etc type fields, foot some of that bill.
