His line of reasoning on financial prudence should have seen him stay in Indiana or at least not give away $10mn on the move.
There is no point in getting a ring when everyone knows that you didnt contribute significantly towards it; you might as well as buy yourself a replica ring, and pat yourself on the back and jump in your living room where no one gives a fukk but you
To you

To him there is

Y'all keep imprinting your goals and wishes on a man who told you his wishes and goals

He planned to do this from day one. Set his money and spending to do just this. You think he didn't know he'd have a limited role? He knew. All the interviews and questions have all been answered, by him no doubt, on the previous page

Y'all just keeping thinking you know what he wants more than he does. When really you just on some "if I was him" but you're not

Again. Salute to a black man who made 80 million. Saved most of it. Didn't feel the need to ball out

And now, under 40, is set for life and doing exactly what he chooses to do.

Shall we all have such planning

All white owners wish their players would be "good boys" like David and Tim. (As far as taking a pay cut, not being good citizens).

Let an owner fleece you while they make billions and pat you on the back and get their friends in the media to call you an ultimate team player. Can't do it.

Yea cause that's what happened. The owner fleeced him. He didn't plan on doing this from the start. Nobody in life ever chooses a job for less money cause they actually love it and it's what they want. We are all just slaves to whoever pays the most and zero other factors. No matter how much money we already have

When you get paid 12 times less than what you had guaranteed, under the guise of winning a championship (which they won't win), and you will certainly be cut the following season because they will have no use for you, yes you got fleeced.

If Someone loves playing basketball, and a team offers to pay them $10,000 to sit on a D league bench, you would call them an idiot for leaving a $120,000 salary job.

If he loves the game so much why did he choose to go sit on the bench?

This is the type of thinking that allows reporters to get away with calling players like Carmelo Anthony, D Wade and Kobe Bryant selfish regardless of the countless things they do for others. "But but but why didn't they take a pay cut so their billionaire owners can chase a ring so they can have bragging rights over their billionaire buddies?"

Fair enough. However, lets not act like it's a financially smart decision. He basically gave away 12.5% of his lifetime earnings to some dude who has billions under what is clearly a blunder in his line of thinking.
Yeah, congratulations on having saved previous salaries and thinking about the future but you just threw away $10mn to a billionaire for an accolade that you have a very low probability of obtaining and in the unlikely event that you do obtain it, no one will care about your role. Horry, Fischer etc made some of the most important and impactful plays in the NBA finals but the narrative doesn't even consider their impact, it's all about Kobe and Shaq, Tim Duncan etc.
People with money do make big blunders and David West unfortunately made one on this move. It's his money but bragging in some article about throwing money away because you saved some in the past is hustling backwards.

I don't know man. This is what he wants. I took a year off, quit my job and gave up my career to travel half of the world. I lost out on 50 grand this year and spent more. Always knew this is what I wanted though. Experience wasn't anything I thought it would be but I'm glad I did it. West knew this is what he wanted and he did it, maybe it didn't turn out exactly how he wanted but he sacrificed earlier on in his career to so he could go for what he always wanted in life. I don't see why people are shytting on the dude.

OK, they're gonna lose to the Warriors but whatever

He had a chance in Indiana to take them out?

David west made his decision and he'll be millionaire either way.

The question is why y'all worrying about other nikkaz pockets when they are already rich?

My thing is even if they win its still dumb as fukk to leave 10 mil on the table.

He more money than most people will ever see, winning a championship and cementing your place in history with a championship squad is more important.

Would only make sense if he went to GS, they are the overwhelming favorite to win the title
Not really though, especially not during the offseason. People were calling the Spurs and Cavs title favorites at least as much if not moreso than the Warriors while free agents were choosing squads. And even now I think anybody who seriously watches games thinks the Spurs have just as much of a chance at winning that title as the Warriors do. If West was going to give up that money - which I would never recommend ANY brother doing - he could have chose San Antonio, Cleveland, or Golden State and by the time the playoffs come around he'll have as much of a chance at winning the title.
