yeah I hate that these dudes get bigged up as philanthropists. they could literally live in the lap of luxury and at the same time cure world hunger and poverty but they dont. and Im supposed to give them props cause they donate a few pennies as a tax write off

This should be obvious. Think pocket change from billionaires is the same thing as public policy if you want.

These dudes are throwing around charity money they burn for the tax deduction and people call them philanthropists
That's not the half of it. Even if they donate their entire fortune, even if they make a substantial financial difference, they will always fund initiatives along the same lines as the worldview that built their fortune. Which is invariably a worldview based on the status quo and will not seek to transform it, only play around the edges.

Anand Giridharadas is that man. He been exposing plutocrats for a minute. His book is really good as well

I went to school with him, but didn’t know him.

Will read them his book and offer my thoughts. I’m confident that a good amount of his world view was shaped by being a bit of outsider looking in on the wealth and hypocrisy of the limousine liberals that he grew up.

That’s fairly accurate. I think you’ll enjoy the book. He touches on subjects that most people have thought about but haven’t been able to fully articulate
