Seeking therapy for a mental Illness is like a sign of weakness in the black community; because in the black community seeking help is look down upon.

When you look at slavery; the job of the master was to break you; not physically, but mentally. So, saying you need help for any kind of mental illness means you have been mentally broken aka weak minded.

Also, when you look at the black community; the majority of the community is Christian. So, people think by praying can cure your illness. But, those people are dumb because Jesus tells you to seek help. It's like having an addition to drugs; people think they can do it cold turkey, until they hit the withdraw stage where some people have died from the pain.

So, people think that praying can relif the pain; but there blind because jesus put doctors so they can help with the pain
The thing is the community is ill itself, how could they diagnose anything?

if both of you read what's quoted in op yall will understand why theyd rather wait for jesus
I just read it. I would wait to Jesus too :wow:. But the quoted is right about us having a different standard of whats "normal" and to not be compared to whites on issues of mental health.

Because psychology thinks being a tranny is normal and makes up mental illneses on the fly to suit political motives.

Also, they wont approve a lot of black psychologists who hold pro black views.

There is white supremacy in psychology too.

If you gave every seemingly "mentally stable" individual in this world a red button that ends their life in a painless instant, within a week you'd change your stance.
we could argue what's actually being normal/stable, but lets skip it, what do you think is the reason for his behavior? Would a "normal" person act like he was acting?

Again, read whats quoted in the op. Dr. Na'im Akbar talks about this issue in his article.

Don't get me wrong. Dude in the video was known to have mental issues by the people in his community. I'm just asking if being suicidal = mentally unstable?

And that's why we need more people in this area we can't let people who are different than us tell whats right and whats wrong about us. Some people always talking that we are all the same but no, we are not.

From personal experience, the blacks I know think that praying to God will fix all mental issues. Most also love to quote the "You don't have real problems, its people out there with it worse".

To show mental instability is seen as either a way to get a ssi check, a sign of weakness, or an excuse to not have follow thru.

Well i could involve religion and related subjects but then a lot of people don't believe in it, so i would say yes, i don't think a healthy, "sane" person would consider suicide. But like i said in op i believe we are all ill in some way, so who knows :manny:

I bet none of these people who pray for god has any knowledge about who they are.
According to Akbar, the “alien-self” disorder is characterized by an individual who rejects their own natural dispositions, and thereby acts in detriment to their survival.

He/She attempts to “live in a dream world,” without acknowledging racism, and thus lives in conflict with their true identity.

Well that is the problem with the community; the blind leading the blind. So the mentally ill is leading the mentally ill.

In the black community who do we hold to a high standard. Athletes, musical atrist, gangsters, and drugs dealers. The majority of them whom have a mental illness; there not going to admit they have a mental illness because they will be considered weak minded. Also, there are not going to seek help because that will conclude that they have a weak mind.

Who do we hold at the low standard; people who educated themselves. People who discover they have a mental illness find out by reading material, seeking help or asking a question. Say a person is hearing voices telling them to kill themselves, the individual would google why do I hear vocies and they would discover the disorder they have including symptoms.

When they educated themselves they will seek help/treatment; that's what black people are afraid to do is ask a question or ask for help; because of the lable of being weak or a dumb or a smart nikka.
