Housing cost are crippling. Throw in student loans and childcare and I see how people end up being paycheck paycheck. Especially if they aren't in a good dual income home.

There needs to be pushback from all of us when they try to force us into the office again. I've been working at home since March now and there's NO reason for me to ever really go back into the office. Not sure what is gonna happen if/when they eventually try to pull that.

Being at home has been great, I've gotten to spend a lot of time with my child, I've eaten better and I could easily move to an lower COL area and still do this job remote. One of my coworkers has an hour long commute in/out of work daily, for what? :why:

facts

and the thing is, why the fukk should it even be a hard convo to have? my fukkin boss/company must pay a million dollars a year to lease our office, everyone wins. at least withing the companies themselves. and with that comes less demand in the cities, etc

:pachaha:Yeah, we JUST happened to enter one of the least diverse, conservative, and competitive fields out there. And there ain't nothing you typed that I haven't gone through plus more. I'm not gonna engage in the struggle Olympics here.

This is a flawed framework that no one introduced so I'm not sure why you even brought it up.
I'm not remotely sure what he's trying to accomplish except that he thinks some excuses are acceptable and others aren't and that this isn't an acceptable excuse. Apparently us "elites" are the only ones who make excuses for stuff like this - except we got to where we got by not making these mistakes. My politics and what the system should be are independent of what I think are dumb or smart choices made within the existing system.

Trying to read the room but it seems like lower income people don't emphasis with structural issues facing the middle class and are fantasizing that they would do it better given the opportunity(something they likely won't ever have to worry about). Workers need better compensation throughout the income brackets except the very top obviously. It's a shame some people were more interested in derailing the thread than talking about the actual issues and even bringing up topics the op disproves.

Side bar? You in Charlotte. I'm thinking of a move down there at some point. That or Houston/Dallas.
I'm in Charlotte. Big presence of folks from up your way that love it down here.

Plenty of work. Plenty of housing. Plenty of black folks. Better weather. Politically there's a growing contingent of people who want better politics.

I still recommend it, but I hear great things about Houston and Dallas as well. My cousin moved to Dallas a few years back.

Word. Oakland is like that? Thought it'd be comparable to DC as far as CoL :patrice:

I'll say this, DMV is pretty good in that you can live a little outside DC and get some good deals on housing. NYC and SF aren't like that from what I'm reading.

Yeah, I want to be able to drive around again and have a yard, etc. Basically, just my own space. Is there a legitimate downtown? I.e. shyt to do after work. I'm pretty sure that I'd have to take the bar. I don't think I can waive in down there. I'd have to check the reciprocity.

At the beginning of mean streets
It’s easy to say save when you don’t have family to help you out or fall back on, let alone dual incomes and your expenses are really high. Some people are able to “save” because they are in some type of community pool or their culture promotes helping out family (like with a big purchase like a home). That’s a leg up.

I don't think you have to take the bar again, NC is a UBE state and has the same passing score as NY (266). You probably just have to re-take MPRE.

Yeah but the UBE came out like two years after I graduated.

This is a perfect clip for this thread:

She hits on everything I was trying get at.....

She chooses to live her life, instead of take care of debt or have a decent savings. Her own words.

Y'all want me to sorry for someone making 100k that only has 3k in savings.

She graduated with 180k in debt, 2 years ago, now its at 230k.
But I'm supposed to feel sorry.

Not surprising. How much someone earns doesn't usually correlate to how good they are with finances overall.
