Drop the caccent, call what it is. The only reason it's legal is because the 13th Amendment, the law that "prohibits" slavery, explicitly allows for this particular brand of slavery. And that our nation's official stance on this.

Prop 6 was to ban involuntary servitude for prisoners, and it had no opposition for it

Prop 36 was to increase harsher penalties for repeated thefts and certain drug crimes such as fentanyl. Over 70% of people voted yes for it.

I don't think this country is worth saving.

The reality is you're not even "saving" it if the core itself is rotten. The cancerous tumor is still there. Treating parts of the body the disease has spread to will not cure it. You have to get rid of the tumor itself.

America needs an overhaul. We need a new constitution or some new ammendments to our existing constitution. The electoral college needs to be abolished or reformed permanently, and Supreme Court and federal court judges need to be elected and have term limits.

The only way that's going to happen is if America is destroyed. The dumbass policies people vote for need to run their course and fukk them over so brutally that they develop a kind of political PTSD and instinctively vote against anything that even reminds them of those policies.

Let the chips fall where they may. Stack your money, surround yourself with smart people and do your best to ride out the storm. The failures of this country aren't on us, it's on white people and c00ns who vote against their own best interests.

From the little I read rent control is good for those that rent now and don't plan on moving but bad for new renters and home buyers.

I want lower rent but i ain't trying to rent forever. It's a complicated issue.

It is what it is. I had to vote for Prop 36.....I've never been the type to vote in favor of shyt like that, but the crime is TOO MUCH out here. People are sick of it. I'm fukking sick of it.

Investors aren't willing to build affordable housing because the profit margins aren't as big as building a new housing development in the nicer parts of towns. Building a $400K home means nothing if it's just a small group of people that can afford it. You can have plots of land zoned for affordable housing but they'll sit vacant for decades because nobody wants to invest in them.

The idea of California being this socialist dominated state is a right-wing myth. This isn’t a rejection this is what California has always been, if you grew up there you know better.

People don't seem to realize that CA is Texas outside of the major metro areas.

Also, crime is out of control. Alameda's DA and Oakland's mayor got recalled.

Imo softening zoning laws, building more multi family, government and high rise housing, having mixed districts, and high speed transit from city to cheaper area all help the fundamental issue of supply and demand that popular areas of Cali face.

That's the only way it ever gets done, but then you get the issue of people crying about putting affordable housing in their neighborhood. The government won't fully fund it and do provide subsidies. They still depend on private investors and private money to complete the projects. Then at that point the private investor only needs to provide a certain number of homes at affordable pricing depending on the demographics of the area. I wish it was just as easy as you're saying, but realistically there's so much red tape to get through.

There is an affordable housing development being built near where I live and they had a community meeting with the investor and our local city council rep and planner that I attended last week that broke down how it works. They even mentioned the increase supply line you said. Of the 67 low income houses they're building only 10 have to be offered at a lower rate. The other 57 are rented out at full price. Which in this case is $2000.
