That Carson Palmer trade was "dumb" at the time it happened and came off as a little reactionary but it wasn't a fireable offense.

He def should be a HC soon

FWIW, Palmer looks like an MVP candidate this year. If they let Hue give up so much for Palmer they should have given it at least another year.

Also this thread was bumped because I think he should get another chance as a HC :yeshrug:

I agree with you on both, but Hue did himself no favors with that meltdown at the end of the season. That over critical meltdown got Cally fired, and as set by precedent, it led to the same for Jackson.

Bill Parcells could be heavily critical through the media, but he never, EVER publically criticized his team's intelligence so bluntly, and I lived through both his Giants & Jets tenure. There's a way to do it & Jackson simply wasn't nuanced enough... players, especially today compared to yesteryear are very sensitive to the wrong kinds & methods of criticism... what Jackson said would have pissed off any locker room, especially in this era.

And FWIW, Palmer never looked this good until latching on with Arians. Maybe Arians just happens to be a better overall coach?

Hue calling a 20 yard pass play instead of running the ball on 3rd and 1 to beat the Lions is all I remember from Hue Jackson. He is the reason the Raiders didn't make the playoffs. For that, I didn't give a shyt that he was fired.

He was talented though.

Yup, this here. HCs should lay off publically calling their team stupid, because there's ALWAYS gonna be enough hair-brained decisions from them to be dissected publically. It's a very easy way to land in hot water unless your hand has a few HC rings on it.

Dalton never looked this good until Hue Jackson. See how that works?

Not saying he's as good as Arians as a HC. But dude has a great offensive mind.

Hard to judge the Hue/Palmer duo when Palmer was traded midseason and Moore was his best wr.

I dont disagree with what you said about criticizing his team though.

I dunno how Dalton & Palmer situations are comparable since Arians never coached Dalton.

I never discredited Jackson's offensive mind nor his developmental talents, but Arians is doing more with Palmer than Hue ever did. That's just a fact. Hue is also doing a great job with Dalton, that's also a fact.

However, let's all be real here, X's & O's savants who don't know how to handle & manage the players & media are best left at coordinator. No one will ever heap praise on Herm Edwards' football acumen, but he was a decent manager of men & carved out a decent little 7 year HC career because he could shmooze the media & to his credit, had a knack for rallying his guys. Same is usually said about Joe Torre, not the best at strategy, but no one was gonna "manage" those Yankee clubhouses like he did, and for it, chiseled out a dynasty from a dead franchise.

Yes, Jackson deserves another chance... but he's gonna have to learn to be way more media savvy or it'll just be rinse & repeat.

The thing is Hue wasn't hired as a GM. Al Davis didn't have a successor and Mark Davis sort of just let him step in that role.

So he didn't really get 'fired' as the GM. They could have kept him as the head coach while bringing in a new GM.

Same here... and he shyts all over that STUPID myth that a good head coach lives in his office like some over-obsessive hermit...

Cue your post referring to Costanza's "look annoyed to look busy" line lol... these mofos are sitting there for hours brooding at their computer screens and trying to look like WW2 generals studying a map of western Europe, but they're actually IMing the mistress :mjlol:

I kinda want hue in sf, I've always been a fan of his but he had way too much power and jeopardized the raiders future with his short term trades

No regime came in and they wanted their people...

I believe they were trying to clean out anybody that had any ties to Al Davis....
