Not a cowboys fan. For me, my first memories of nfl were Deion with Atl and buffalo losing 2 straight to the Boys. If it wasn’t for Hank Hill, he would be George Blanda statusHow can you not know this one his nickname is literally Captain America bruh...
Joe Louis was also draftedI'm talking about black famous athletes, not no fukking cacs
I don't care what you talking about. The NBA and the NFL should've had alot of people drafted to Vietnam if it was random. It's a discrepancy.
Fukk out of my face![]()
They weren’t gonna put Ali on the front lines. They wanted him to do exhibition matches to “build morale” for the soldiers BS, but Ali STILL refused just off general principle.the difference between elvis and ali is that they wanted to send ali to the frontlines and get killed, elvis was given some desk job
It’s not that hard to get a deferment. I believe the main reason the demographic you speak of didn’t get drafted is because sports was making money and boosting morale so it was more beneficial to keep them home then abroad and exposed to Communist ideals.I'm talking about black famous athletes, not no fukking cacs

you ever see those pics of him in a little azz car?
interesting thread. Lets not lose it over the title
I think his religion and statements on race prior influenced him being drafted
Most famous people being listed were in WW2, which was seen as good war, "patriotic" war coming after Pearl Harbor. Ali was drafted in 67, and Vietnam had strong support but also strong oppostion. I dont think Ali would've been put on the front lines, probably had to do basic training and entertain the troops putting on exhibitions. The army like any other powerful entity deals in pr just as others do be it entertainent or sports, etc. Military personel wouldn't say it on the record but the symbolic jesture of having Ali...the heavyweight champion and a black muslim who already made statement on race relations in America...being on "board" for Vietnam could've sway some of those that opposed the war.
"Look, the champ supports the war, so why aren't you" would've been an Army talking point.
Ali didnt let them have thier symbolic jesture and was kept from fighting for three years. I dont think its tinfoil to think if Ali accepted enlistment, all he would have to do is some exhibition tours and pr, the US government would've let him keep his regular fighting schedule
my two cents
They never forgave him for Rome and the conversion. Them fukkers would have had him boxing right before a “surprise attack”, you already know the play.thats what they say but hes smart enough to realize that can change on a whim
Can't even make threads on the Coli. Corny people always looking for daps and trying to play somebody.
My point is there should've been ALOT MORE prominent people, from the NBA, NFL, and MLB that went to Vietnam.
So Kareem, Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Jerry West, Pete Maravich, Nate Thurmond, they all escaped the random lottery huh?![]()
A lottery drawing – the first since 1942 – was held on December 1, 1969, at Selective Service National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This event determined the order of call for induction during calendar year 1970; that is, for registrants born between January 1, 1944, and December 31, 1950. Re-institution of the lottery was a change from the “draft the oldest man first” method, which had been the determining method for deciding order of call.
There were 366 blue plastic capsules containing birth dates placed in a large glass container and drawn by hand to assign order-of-call numbers to all men within the 18-26 age range specified in Selective Service law.
Joe Louis was also drafted

except this isn't true. ali would've been doing little boxing exhibitions and pr appearances. they would've used him as a recruiting tool in the Black community.the difference between elvis and ali is that they wanted to send ali to the frontlines and get killed, elvis was given some desk job
He wasn’t, you are just uneducated on the subject.
