Why was Muhammad Ali the only prominent celebrity that was "drafted"?

A lot of folks were drafted..even Black celebrities, they all went and fought.
They never mention it publicly for some reason but their military service records is in their biographies.

For some reason, this popped in my head today. Seems kinda weird that he was the only one:childplease:

Imo,...i believe ali was diagnosed with parkinson's.
As early as at the olympic trials. Where he was ruled out of military drafting. Then later on was drafted.
to make an example out of ali. After coming to prominence.

Which is why his fight style was the way it was. As a thumb in the eye of the original diagnosis.

He wasn't diagnosed until 1984, but the family noticed symptoms in the late 70s.

In 84. I feel is when ali publically releaaed this.
Imo,...

As no one who was healthy.
was able to dodge military draft enlistment...
nobody was above drafting. Regardless of their stature.

Imo,..ali was diagnosed.
Similar to brian grant being diagnosed for parkinson.

Right before the nba draft.
Yet covered up.

Which was not exposed till cbs sportsline punk writer ken berger.
Like sometime in around 2007 - 2009 or 2010.

the difference between elvis and ali is that they wanted to send ali to the frontlines and get killed, elvis was given some desk job
Elvis wasnt given a desk job. Elvis was a jeep driver and reconnaissance scout. Elvis declined to join the Special Services and entertain the troops.

Yeah, his slurred speech was very noticeable by the late 70s. That’s not necessarily Parkinson’s….that can be pugilistic dementia/CTE and is the most obvious and common symptom you see with fighters (James Toney, Meldrick Taylor, Riddikk Bowe, Shane Mosley, Thomas Hearns, ….), but there was enough concern about his health that he had to go to the Mayo Clinic and get cleared in order to fight a prime :flabbynsick: in 1980.

Somehow he was cleared to fight despite his some troubling findings, and took a horrible beating. Then fought once more against Trevor Berbick later and finally retired.

The neurologist here around the 29:15 mark talks about some of the symptoms Ali suffered from (this is my pick for #1 boxing documentary ever)

I read the contrary actually. I heard that after the first time Ali refused the draft they tried to set it up to where he’d virtually be guaranteed to see no action and he’d be basically traveling around giving speeches to rally the troops.

Ali still stuck to his guns and THATS when the government came down on him hard.

Ali was dyslexic, so he originally didn’t qualify for the military

US involvement in the Vietnam war got larger during the mid 60s, so the military changed its standards, reclassifying him and saying he was now eligible. He applied to be a conscientious objector and they rejected his application, convicting him, causing him to be stripped of his titles and inactive from 1967-70.

It was actually after he came back and shortly after he lost to Frazier in the FOTC that The Supreme Court overturned his conviction.
