Gave amnesty to immigrants and took credit for Paul Volcker stabilizing the economy. Though, to his credit, he could have fired Volcker and appointed a new fed chairman as soon as he got into office.
He eventually did fire Volcker because he wasn't a deregulator. But not before Volcker got inflation under control.
Ronnie was also a lot more moderate than a lot of Republicans today, if you can believe it. He believed in private sector unions, publicly stated that social security had nothing to do with the deficit, raised capital gains taxes on the wealthiest citizens, gave amnesty to illegals, etc.
Most people hate Reagan because the tight money strategy Volcker employed cost a lot of low income people (read: black people) jobs. There's also that whole war on drugs thing.
I wouldn't go so far as to call him the worst president of all time. I think both sides of the current political spectrum misunderstand his tenure.
