I'll add to it and say that he was too intelligent to be moving as stupidly as he was moving. I think its as simple as, breh fell in with the wrong crowd and paid for it. He was a method actor, literally classically trained as an actor, so it was easy for him to create a role and act it. That's what he did. Then not only did he act the role, he got carried away and made the role his actual reality.

People tend to remove Pac from his age a lot. Yeah, he was wise, and conscious, but still very emotional and naive in certain respects. Also, being knee deep in the whirlwind music/entertainment industry going into adulthood made things much worse. He lacked the strong, positive guidance needed to ground and focus him. Once Suge got a hold of him, it was basically over.
