Its funny, this thread was posted because I was talking to my wife about the issue. Like we were watching a movie and the audio was so fukking low I had to turn it up. Yet, the damn explosions and music damn near made my small ass Roku TV have alpine bass

This is specifically a Nolan thing.
He literally said that he mixes his movies for theaters with the best sound setups and doesn't care about films that don't have legit setups. This came to a head when Tenet dropped and people literally couldn't hear the dialogue in a film that is 90% dialogue
That is pure classism/elitism. Not everyone has access to imax theaters. Hell, I live in LA and there are only a few true IMAX theaters that I can count.
I've been talking about this issue on my channel for a while now, actually. When I reviewed DUNE, not being able to hear the dialogue was one of the cons I listed, and some people tried to tell me I was making that up. For reference, I saw that film on vacation in Hawaii in a relatively normal theater that had a great sound system called the Dole Cannery.
I always tell my audience to turn on subtitles, even for English productions and most of my videos have subtitles on them.
