Keep in mind the amount of area you're talking about. And it's 3D space. If you had a MILLION chunks over JUST the area of the US, that's one chunk per 4 square miles. And that doesn't factor in the different altitude levels.

So, yeah collisions are a risk but pretty low. We're doing a good job of tracking debris even moving the station if something seems like it's going to get close. We'll have policies in place to stay up with increased traffic.

Maybe, but not because of this. This is just unfortunate side effect of our limited technology. I want to be a space garbage man though.:obama:

Yep, most reenter and burn up and even then, for the 500k "large" pieces, they'll be so far apart you would probably have to aim to hit them. We tend to underestimate the scale of shyt when talking about space.
