While i think Tyler Perry makes terrible moives, i applaud him for his business acumen and his ability to make whatever movies he wants due to the fact that he runs his own PRODUCTION COMPANY. At least he is not shucking and jiving to these jewish producers, begging them to fund his films.

While his movies are borderline c00nery, i him for feeding his demographic and getting money on his own terms. At least he is giving these black actresses and actors job that no one else will..

For those that don't like his films, simply DONT SEE THEM.

Being honest. I can't stand Tyler Perry movies. They remind me of those old Amos and Andy shows mixed with Christianity. He makes simple movies for simple people. People who want an affirmation that their lives are correct and just, while other's are suffering because of their "success". As a Black man, I applaud his success in making money doing this. He has opened the doors for many actors and actresses of color, but he is basically running a 2013 Minstrel Show for the masses. So congrats and fukk you at the same time. The people who are "tired" of Tyler Perry and critical of him weren't buying his movies in the first place, so what effect could possibly have on his box office appeal? Cosign. I watched a couple TP movies. Some were wack, some were dope (loved the family that preys together). At the end of the day, he's a 100% self made man. The white Hollywood system shytted on him, he said fukk it I'll do it my way, and now he's reaping the rewards.

It's all well and good saying trash movies get made everyday and comparing him to Michael Bay and Judd Apatow but Apatow and Bay aren't the only high profile white directors in Hollywood. Perry is pretty much all we have so of course his work comes under scrutiny. It's dumb and dangerous to dismiss criticism of him as 'just hate'. Plus the writer of that article is black anyway.

The problem isn't inherent in the shyttiness of Perry's writing/production values/directorial skills/. He is what he is and you can't fault him for capitalising on his popularity. People voted with their wallets, he can do what he wants.

The problem is the absence of a well promoted/funded alternative. People point to Red Tails and 42 but sports biopics without a big name attached don't do well as a rule and read about the problems a tenured industry billionaire like Lucas encountered in the business when trying to make Red Tails happen.

This article has an important point. Most content aggregators/reviewers are white and they tend to skirt around honest criticism of Perry which is condescending and grants Perry the illusion of mainstream acceptance.

Eh, nobody is saying TP has mainstream acceptance. Non black folks ain't coming out in droves to support this cat. He has a strong black female audience and they love his shyt (can't be mad at that). The reason there's so few black directors and studios is because the white hollywood system has a iron clad :nonikkas: policy.

TP went around the system and is now reaping the reward. Unfortunately until another cat comes and does a Tyler Perry (or as I said in my previous post TP becomes a distributor and publisher) he's gonna remain the only black dude in the game.

Sure, Tyler Perry might have opened the door for many black actors, but he's also a big part the reason why many black actors can't find roles in movies that don't involve heavy c00nery and doing stupid shyt like having men wear dresses. His movies are destructive to blacks everywhere, stereotyping us in the worst of ways.
