Lol Do yourself a favor...browse LinkedIn and you will see white people with high paying job and joke degrees. As a stem grad who is trying to leave my current position both people that got hired in the positions I wanted were less qualified. I feel like my resume has to be more stacked than a white person.

Why won't anyone hire me for my degree in Medieval History? :mjcry:

But real talk, black people as a whole have to stop going to school for these Non-Professional, Non-skilled trade, or Non-Stem degrees

She was a diikkhead for getting a bullschitt degree in medieval history in the first place.

black folks need to focus on either computer related, medical, insurance, teacher, finance, accounting related type of fields while in school.... JOBS that will be around for decades

she was better off going to truck driving school and getting a CDL than going all these years for school for film production especially if you don't have connections or you not at one of the top film schools like USC or NYU

wish her and others the best

So basically she wants to learn how to operate a camera, I.E. A D.P. who in their right mind would hire her without any experience on how to use the camera? She would be better off starting with a DSLR taking pictures, and trying to shoot little videos and short films for people, then learning about the other cameras

Unless she's going to find little gigs to start off as a PA and such she's not going to get hired anywhere, And Los Angeles would be better for her to start, but Atlanta is cool I guess

That's white people, as OP said black people can't afford to get "passion" degrees if they are not paying. Go to school looking for a career that pays and then use your earnings to fund your passion.

If you aren't at least middle class then your aim needs to be getting to a point where your kids can follow their passions with some generational wealth as security net

Im 18 and had my middle class cac friend trying to tell me to do some bullshyt media degree instead of trying to be an engineering apprentice because it's not as 'fun' :gucci:

We don't have the luxury of doing bullshyt degrees for fun or aimless passion, we need jobs:martin:

White people teach their kids to create jobs/value, black people teach their kids to look for jobs.

That said, 99% of degrees are worthless because 99% of curriculum has nothing to do with the job you want. A bunch of filler courses they put in as requirements to make you "well rounded" aka so we can charge you more. For the most part you can take a 25 year old who worked after high school and a 25 year old who has a bachelor's and Masters and teach them the same job and they can both be equally proficient. Hell in some cases the one who worked after highschool has hands on experience and might actually be better.

Employers know the degrees hold little weight anymore and it's become what a high school diploma use to be.
