Why won't anyone hire me for my degree in Medieval History? :mjcry:

But real talk, black people as a whole have to stop going to school for these Non-Professional, Non-skilled trade, or Non-Stem degrees
I honestly feel bad for her. Some of these kids put their hearts and soul into these carreer fields and have nothing to show for it in the end

Don’t know if it’s because you’re in the US and maybe because we’re more culturally assimilated over the generations as UK Caribbeans but this isnt true at all over here.

This only applies to Africans and Asians, over here Caribbean parents are often just happy to see their kids go to University and get a degree. We aren’t as obsessed with perception by others and community pressure which is a good and bad thing.

Africans and Asians are all about those strict career paths.
Whenever I see my cousins who live on the Islands they’re exactly like the memes you posted but I feel we’ve lost a lot of our culture in terms of values and we’ve become too cacish.

The only time you’re a disgrace to the family over here is if you’re unemployed or a criminal. If you’re studying or working then you’ll get support in whatever your career path or degree.
Well it' easy for people living in major countries like UK, USA and France to say this because you dont have a DESPERATE NEED of these basic things that a modern advance society has to fucntion. But back in those days for you to BECOME SOMEBODY on those islands you werent doing it through the arts.

All the islands , outside of Cuba, have always struggled with having healthcare. All of them had to get deep into debt to build an infrastructure because they not only lacked the skills and experience inhouse. It's amazing what Cuba was able to accomplish despite have the USA's embargo on their necks for 70 years. Children from all over the islands go there for college FOR FREE and go back home to be productive citizens in their own countries. Underdeveloped countries dont need more artists, homie. We'll entertain ourselves just fine. We aspire to be much more than these foreigner's vacation spots and more artists isnt gonna help.

QUESTION:

Can someone gimme some examples of what a "communications degree" trains you for in the real world?
  • What career paths are available?
  • What classes do you take that's required for a Communications degree?
  • How can that degree be APPLIED in the job market?
  • Like if i own a small company, what role could i fill with someone with a communications degree?
Edit: Found it on google. Seems like something someone would learn if they are trying to be a journalist or an author or teaching and marketing

A masters from SCAD? That's just a little better than printing out your own degree lol. Chick better start from the bottom in tv if she really wants a job. She probably think she's entitled to some big job because of that masters but SCAD ain't gonna cut it. In this field it's better to have some experience unless you get super lucky where somebody will take a chance on you. And she said she's moving to Atlanta?!?! On faith?!?:picard: That shyt is super competitive! You can't just get a job not knowing wtf you're doing. I wish I could talk to her... You have to bust ass in this field.

I live in London.

If you got to a good school and have good grades (1st class), in most cases it doesn't matter what degree you have.

I have friends that studied philosophy for bachelors that are accountants.

I have friends that are surveyors that studied music production for bachelors.

In the UK we have conversion courses which are Masters degrees if you want to change career.

That sucks.

Most degrees are useless

Most degrees are useless. And people need to stop acting like STEM degrees are in high demand and if you have one you'll surely get a job. Especially for Blacks.

But then again, the same Blacks that prop up and cape for immigration are the same ones being beat out of those lucrative software engineering positions by East Asians with a masters working for less.

What most people don't understand is that with certain degrees you have to hustle. Yeah you might get a low paying job at first but you have to build your credibility. This idea that you're gonna walk out of school into a high income figure job is insane. Also being black in America you know very well you have to be a 5 star recruit just to get a seat at the table.

She's just dumb and delusional, like a lot of us Black. I always warn you fools about being so optimistic and always wanting things sugarcoated.

Stop thinking you can move like a CAC. The real truth is, this a CAC country. We have to get in where we fit in. We can't even dream like a CAC. Be real with yourself.

Fukk passion and dreams, get paid then chase your passions.

Lol Do yourself a favor...browse LinkedIn and you will see white people with high paying job and joke degrees. As a stem grad who is trying to leave my current position both people that got hired in the positions I wanted were less qualified. I feel like my resume has to be more stacked than a white person.
I know a Bank manager with a film degree. Art history major working trade support for the second largest firm in the world. A communication major making 70k in the NYC school system. Guess what they all have in common:mjpls:
