Why would the Government hide proof of Aliens existence?

The odds of God only creating us as living beings in this universe is pretty slim and the government definitely has more information on UFO and Extraterrestrial sightings than it’s letting on but why would they want to hide this info from us? Are they afraid that the revelation might cause world wide peace and unity among the human population?

And because the government or the “powers that be” look at the people or the general population as kids, and they decide what’s good for them, how things should work, and when they should know things and how much they should know.

If an alien species has technology capable of intergalactic travel, they've obviously FAR more advanced than humans. Knowing that would cause panic amongst many people, and rightfully so. One group of humans have often been unable to come in contact with a more technologically advanced group of humans without being smashed.

BTW, for you religious folks, aliens are just beings that originate from somewhere other than Earth. If a being created Earth, they obviously predate Earth and are alien by definition. Religious folks not only believe in aliens, they worship them.
