I JUST got called for nyc transit job for conductor for a test I took approx 6 years ago. The starting pay doesn't justify me dropping everything I built so far.

Took the usual city exams, took it for mta transit. I think I scored like a 96% and my list number was in the 4k range. At the time of posting I think starting pay was like 50k or something near.

Thing is , I graduated got my degree, got a job making more than their starting salary and then moved out of nyc and have time put in my field all after taking the test.

I lived in nyc making 50k-55k a year, it's not enough solo without help and I'm not doing roommates ever again. My last roommate cut his throat and tried to die in the crawl space in my room.

For me to take the offer, I would have to move back to NYC and take a big paycut and struggle on 50k-58k a few years and start at the bottom of seniority. Thing is you get a great pension which is pretty much non existent outside of government positions.

Long story short, nyc transit jobs and city jobs exam jobs have very long list of applicants. You pretty much ha e to score 110% to get called the quickest

Your premise is still off, because you questioned why we on this forum are not serving our community. You did not question why more are not serving our community in general. Your word usage matters. It brings context to your statement. How you worded your question, you were metaphorically pointing a finger at everyone on this forum, not questioning the general participation of our people in uplifting the community.

Now I can only speak for myself. I have served as a commissioned officer in the US Navy (Supply Corps). Also served as an enlisted man before I went to college. I've also donated time and money to various organizations like Food Banks, CHKD & St. Jude (Children Hospitals), tutored many young brothers and sisters in mathematics, conducted free statistical analysis for a predominantly Black school system, and helped multiple people get their business financials and taxes in order for free.

So like I said before, you can't assume people on this forum are not helping the community. I am pretty sure I have come across other posts here that demonstrate brothers and sisters on The Coli are being major contributors in to the Black Community in multiple ways via time, money, and actual careers.
