What's at the Movies this Weekend? (Nov. 14-16)

Edgar Wright's remake of The Running Man arrives in 3,534 theaters. A no. 1 opening is all but guaranteed and it's expected to debut with $20M. The original opened with $8.1M in 1987 which equates to $22.6M to today's dollars.

Predator: Badlands will actually be the widest release, playing in 3,725 theaters. It's coming off of a number one opening of $40M and has totaled $51.5M so far. That already makes it the 3rd highest grossing Predator film in the franchise, excluding AVP abominations.

The Now You See Me franchise will be seen for the first time since 2016 with Now You See Me Now You Don't. Is there a more perfect title for a sequel? We'll see how many people turn out to see this one. Now You See Me 2 had a $22.3M opening. Maybe the threequel can get close.

Oz Perkins is back with Keeper, 9 months after the poorly received The Monkey. The Monkey opened with $14M, which was down from Longlegs' $22.4M. Keeper is looking at single digits, which will continue a downward trend for Perkins, and now Tatiana Maslany, who also starred in The Monkey.

I had some interest in maybe seeing The Keeper or Running Man, but the reviews have me thinking I can just wait until streaming and just catch up on some other stuff.

Now You See The Running Man: Now You Don't: Weekend Box Office Results (Nov. 14-16)

The best part about seeing a new magic show - or a new Now You See Me movie - is the genuine feeling of surprise when the outcome is completely unforeseen. And this outcome was unforseen with Now You See Me: Now You Don't pulling a $21.3M opening weekend out of its hat. It really turned The Running Man into a disappearing act.

2016's Now You See Me 2 opened with $22.3M. That is $30M when adjusted for inflation but it's good enough to give Lionsgate its 3rd no. 1 movie this year: Den of Thieves 2 ($15M) and Flight Risk ($11.5M).

It was a disappointing second place opening for The Running Man, only managing $17M. This sprinter really struggled getting out of the gate. Nobody was running to the movies to see this; they were running away. :skip:

Predator: Badlands had a horror / MCU level 67.5% drop in its second weekend, totaling $13M. :picard: Badlands has totaled $66.3M, making it the highest grossing Predator film. The OG Predator made $59.7M. Badlands is the 27th highest grossing movie this year, passing The Account 2's $65.5M.

:patrice:

Wicked: For Good hits theaters this Friday so Wicked was re-released in 2,195 theaters and made $1.2M. How many people thought they were seeing the sequel? Comcast some sneaky mothafukkas. That brings Wicked's lifetime domestic total to $474.4M. It's the 27th highest grossing movie of all time and just $3M from overtaking Frozen II's $477.3M. Wicked: For Good is Fandango's best advance-ticket seller of 2025 and will do massive numbers.

Wicked Number Manipulation: For the Greater Good: Weekend Box Office Results (Nov. 21-23)

It's not Thanksgiving yet but it's safe to say that the Box Office is thankful for Wicked: For Good, which had a record $150M opening. Right now, it's the 14th highest grossing movie this year, right behind Weapons' $151.5M Total Gross. It's the 3rd best November opening of all time, behind the $181.3M of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's $158M.

It's also the second best opening of the year, knocking off Lilo & Stitch's $146M, but falling well short of A Minecraft Movie's $162.7M.

That's what happens when Universal gets to add the $30.8M in Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in previews to their "opening" Friday. :troll: And it was a smart business decision. Doing that made Wicked: For Good Universal's second best opening ever, behind only Jurassic World's $208.8M. Lie, cheat, steal, manipulate, fudge the numbers. It's all for the greater good.

Universal has struck gold with the Wicked "franchise." Last year's Wicked killed it with a then-record $112.5M opening for a Broadway adaption. They outdid themselves with themselves. :wow:
