Dont really watch baseball too much at all anymore but Ichiro and Tony Gywnn were the only 2 players in my life time I thought had a legit chance at .400

I think nomar Garciaparra had a few high hitting seasons as well

If you notice most hitters who somewhat threaten it start off hot but finish somewhat cold. The person who gets it is gonna one who starts off with like a .370 average through the first 50 or 50 games and then finish on a tear. But with that long ass season a great hitter can go in a slump at anytime. If they would cut the season back to maybe 110-120 games I could really see a person making a run at it.

I think Chipper was the last to really threaten. Not sure how many months in he was but he took a good shot at it and finished around .364 i think.

Your right but no way baseball cuts back on its season.Cutting back means less revenue.Back in the day players were hitting .410...a player today could probably barely clear .370. What Gwynn did in 1994 was amazing..even though the year was cut short due to strike.Gwynn was so so close to .400. Baseball records are hard to break more so then any other sport. Football records get broken all the time passing yards, receiving yards (outside or rushing yards record). Baseball its hard to hit 57 games in a row or hit 40% safely of your total at bats.People are still amazed by hitting for the cycle these days :heh:

Gywnn would of/could of batted .400

Matt Williams and Griffey woulda easily surpassed 62 hr's

The Expos would of/could of won it all

I remember Helton and Ichiro flirting a lot with .400 in the mid 2000's.

If I had to guess someone now, probably Miguel Cabrera.

I still believe Cabrera can do it. :ohlawd:

Mike Trout might make a run at it one day too. He isn't even close to hitting his prime. :lupe:

In 94, in the 2nd half Gwynn was hitting .423 through 111 AB's. I remember in 94 he hit a point when his average just kept increasing every week. I really think he would have done it in 94 if not for the strike.
