It seems there’s just so much excitement and novelty with new ip that also happen to knock it our of the park that it’s hard for even highly rated sequels to compete.

E33 swept with hotly anticipated sequels from Kojima and Sony, silksong, hades 2, etc.

BG3 while technically a sequel was a gameplay reboot beat ToTK a game everyone assumed had it locked.

Elden big beat ragnarok, god of war 2018 beat RDR2 a game with a 97 meta.

My hot take is if gta6 release next year it’s going home empty handed even when it ends up being a sales megaton.

Something like phantom blade or another similar game is just gonna own the zeitgeist in award discussion

I think a big issue with games nowadays is they have such long developmental times that they lose the chance to gather the momentum they had.

Also, I think the Game Awards partially favors new entries and stories like Exp 33 & BG3. Since the idea of two games that are one of the best games of the generation in a gameplay style those most gamers usually don't care about. Plus, these are games new gamers can jump right into.

I would be surprised if GTA VI wins any awards when it releases outside of the technical awards, since that aspect should be very impressive.

If GTA VI is actually good it's a lock for GOTY. If it lives up to the hype it's winning that easily.

probably not, unless it's a TLOU to Part 2 type gameplay level up, which was unprecedented

in this era of gamers that complain just to complain, "iterative sequel" became a trendy thing to parrot when it never mattered before

so now ppl get their microscopes out and expect a complete overhaul of everything, which at that point, it might as well be a new IP

If you're talking about The Game Awards. GTA V was 2013 and those awards started in 2014.

Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't GTA. GTA is way more popular.

GTA5 lost at the previous awards

Rockstar games aren’t a lock and Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 80 million copies and has a 97 metacritic. :mjlol:
