Will from the Fresh Prince is one of the sorriest black male characters in TV history.

He moved to southern cali from Philly. Lives with a wealthy family with a butler, uncle is a lawyer, then a judge. He goes to a private school. Access to an abundance of resources and he doesn’t take advantage of any of it. The series finale ends with him struggling to finish community college and he about to be homeless :mjlol:

How do you fukk up that bad in life. :mindblown:

And Carlton pulled badder women. How they portrayed the character was sad. Even Hillary flipped her privilege into her own TV show. Carlton went to Princeton. This nikka was living rent free and didn’t save a dime. Couldn’t find a crib in the 90’s. He might as well had stayed in Philly.
How would you handle your ex fiance becoming your step sister?

Yeah Will was never serious, in his HS years it was funny but when he got to college it started to get played out. He had many schemes but never committed to any of them
Will was serious he was just happy go lucky. He joked around a lot but you couldn't call him lazy

Like mentioned earlier in the thread Will had created plenty of opportunities for himself but his family(except for Ashley) pushed him away from anything that wasn't on the path they wanted for him

Anytime Will committed to something the entire episode was dedicated to Phil, Vivian, his mama, or Carlton trying to convince him why he was doing the wrong thing :francis:

The show runners made a lot of dumb decisions but people always call this show the Goat. I know ecumenical they made them decisions, but shyt still was dumb.

At the end of the day we had less standards back then, as long as it was funny we didn’t care.

Like how zack morris ended up getting a perfect SAT score and going to the same school as screech

His character was a hustler. He knew how to maneuver around different crowds and settings. He would have had a couple of years of building and growing, but he would be successful no matter what. It was just in him. Sports mgmt/entertainment, acting, marketing, he was gonna be very successful no matter what.

Them not letting him marry Lisa set his character back tremendously in the 6th season. Loved it end to end while on but when binging the show, its so obvious how much they fukked up his character
All that buildup of Will and Lisa for it to end that way smh. I’m guessing they had to find a way to get Nia Long off the show but man they could’ve replaced her like they did aunt Viv or something lol. They made a lot of crazy decisions on the latter part of that series:

Fresh Prince suffered from the same thing most sitcoms suffer from. The Status Quo. Will couldn't keep that dealership job, continue to be a big time basketball prospect, marry Lisa or even something as simple as working with Ashley or Hilary because it would change the show too much. He couldn't keep the dealership job because he'd have too much money and would be able to move out completely changing the show. He couldn't continue to be a basketball star because he'd have to leave the show when it got to college or the show would have to follow him removing the family. He couldn't marry Lisa because romance plots are the easiest episodic content to write in a sitcom and marrying him off would cut off a massive chunk of plots. That's why marriage is always saved for the end of the show. He couldn't work with Ashley or Hilary longterm because of the money thing again. Him not moving with Hilary was dumb though. Show was over. His goal was to finish high school and he did. College was a different matter and he could always transfer.

I was hustling hard at the time and didn't watch all the episodes of all six seasons but I recall he had a pretty decent roster.
Prime Tyra Banks, Tisha Campbell, Robin Givens, and Nia Long. And I think Pam Grier. Not too shabby.
I'm still pissed bout them writing DJ Jazzy Jeff out of the show but that's life.
