You guys have to stop thinking of these things as traditional generations.
There is no such thing anymore, just a slow drop of support over time. My guess is that things will start getting locked out on an OS level like we see on phones and pc gaming.

You fanboys getting smart dumb what do you think PS4 pro was? It was a response to the rumor of Xbox coming out with a new system but Microsoft decided to release their system Xbox One S instead of Scorpio which they were intending release Scorpio last year if you read Phil interview.
Microsoft seen PS4 Pro as a response but Sony didn't expect Scorpio to be that powerful which Sony openly admitted at E3 that year.
It's a minor upgrade with slight benefits to Vr
Hopefuly sony is firm and deads ps4 game development after one year.When Sony no longer requires developers to provide support for older consoles and only develop for the PS5 how will devs code for the Scorpio AND the og XB1? Will they have to release yet ANOTHER next gen console?

This is going to be different I don't see PS5 being that much of an upgrade compared to the previous generations. Like from PS2 to PS3. The x86 architechture will be easy to have cross generations I expect when PS5 games come out a good chunk will still be playable on the PS4 pro or hell even PS4. Developers aren't making the money as they used to so they going to stretch generations as long as they can just like phones and computers.
Which is why Xbox is ahead of the fold. They are creating an open source of gaming for Pc and console closing the gap making money off Xbox Live. Releasing their games on multiple platforms is a plus and create multiple revenue while also insuring the longevity of a game by having two online communities. Business 101 but fanboys think it's stupid. You don't make money from hardware even Phil said that last week. Microsoft made over a billion fourth quarter 2016 off Xbox Life that is fukking ridiculous but you have fanboys like @Rekkapryde talking system sold like it means something

The mid gen upgrades and x86 architecture has pushed consoles into the cell phone upgrade category. The key to me will be when the previous gen support will stop, i.e. when you don't see games being made on both new gen/old gen like at the start of the gen on consoles.
On a side note...
Vast majority of people still are cool with their 1080p/720p tvs. I still think it's rediculous that cable/satellite are still broadcasting in 1080i/720p. These networks need to stop being cheap and push the tech forward. That'll help adoption of other shyt.

I guess you didn't read my full paragraph because I answered that question. Sony makes money from Exclusives as third party titles are percentages. Sooner or later they will have to touch other avenues as the hardware game is operating at a loss. Sony is operating at a lost for PS4 pro and probably was the same for PS4 4 years ago. The avenues are software sales and Microsoft is doing that with hardware as they touch other avenues

PS4 Pro is that shyt and I have no use for my Xbox. I only use it for my 4K blu ray content but as of now strictly PS4 Pro. Bought a 65 inch 4K HDR LG last night and played a quick game of 2K and I can't wait to try COD and titanfall.
Also got my cousin (Xbox head) to buy a PS4 this week as he crashed over my house after my birthday celebration over the weekend and he played Last of Us like.

No they are not operating at a loss on the pro. Stop it. No one is taking major losses on consoles anymore. Those days are done. They had a pricepoint set in mind and configured it to the best with those limits.

This was for PS4 not the pro when PS4 first was released. They couldn't afford to put in a Blu 4K inside the Pro they definitely would of lost money. The 8GB memory 4 years ago was a killer but I applaud them for doing that but now it shouldn't cost that much. Don't be surprise to see Xbox Scorpio under 500

can't take those losses like they could in the past. PS3 launch ensured that. They were making profit damn near at release and the financials confirmed this (I get those).
We knew they kept the 4k bluray out of the pro to keep the price at 399. Obviously they did their research and showed that 4k disc adoption wasn't worth the price to do it with what they were putting in the pro. I fully expect the nickel to have one. Disney has yet to make 4k discs yet. That probably went into their decision as well. The price at 399 was more important than throwing in the 4k disc player.
As for the Scorp's price, Best case scenario is 499. MS isn't known for taking huge losses on electronics, esp not being a hardware manufacturer. Realistically, 550 makes more "sense" to me and is still a deal IMO.
