Sony Pictures has picked up the big screen rights to World War Z author Max Brooks' upcoming graphic novel, The Harlem Hellfighters, Variety reports. Illustrated by Caanan White, the book hits shelves next month and is officially described as follows:

In 1919, the 369th infantry regiment marched triumphantly home from World War 1. They had spent more time in combat than any other American unit, never losing a foot of ground to the enemy, or a man to capture, and winning countless decorations. Though they returned as heroes, this African American unit faced tremendous discrimination, even from their own government. The Harlem Hellfighters, as the Germans called them, fought courageously on—and off—the battlefield to make Europe, and America, safe for democracy.

In "The Harlem Hellfighters," bestselling author Max Brooks and acclaimed illustrator Caanan White bring this history to life. From the enlistment lines in Harlem to the training camp at Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the trenches in France, they tell the heroic story of the 369th in an action packed and powerful tale of honor and heart.

The Harlem Hellfighters is set up for development through Overbrook(FYI Will Smith owns it) with Josh Bratman attached to produce.

Sony Pictures acquires the rights to the Max Brooks’ graphic novel “The Harlem Hellfighters” and set Overbrook Entertainment to produce.

Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter will produce for Overbrook. Brooks will adapt the script.

Set to be published in April, the story centers on the 369th Infantry Regiment, an African-American regiment from Harlem, N.Y., that fought in France during World War I and became one of the most decorated regiments of the war.

Known more for his genre fare like “World War Z,” the graphic novel is more grounded but is expected to be just as compelling.

CAA, brokered the deal, reps Brooks and Overbrook. Brooks is also repped by Brillstein Entertainment and lit agent Ed Victor.

What the hell training in my home town.

Wadsworth is like an area with some pretty big ass house around there. It's a few million dollar homes built on that land now.
