Is it Oscar Bait? Sure, even Will can be guilty that (Cough Bagger Vance, Cough). But once again I will not knock Will for trying other types of movies that aren't "Alien Invasion/Action/Save the world" Flicks. Interesting concept, kinda like "The Christmas Carol" or "It's a Wonderful Life". Depressed person is visited by spirital beings that make him appreciate life. It's not an original concept but it's how you do it. It is a good cast though.
