You literally told me you hated 12 years a slave because most people who saw it were white people....then i explain to you most consumers of black entertainment in America ARE WHITE FOLK! and since that post from july i have noticed that there is alot of hate for black filmmakers....Before NOPE dropped you had a bunch of people shyt on it....before Black Panther 2 dropped you had a bunch of people shyt on it.....this is Will Smith first and only slave movie in a career which he has had like 30-40 movies over the last 30 years.
Lets say we have a movie about a black breh who goes to prison for a crime he ain't commit, he goes through alot of shyt in prison, gets beats up and abused, his only witness gets killed, he has a horrible warden....he breaks out and flees to mexico....most coli brehs would shyt on that movie and call it another "prison movie" or "trauma porn"....but when a white man does it...it is one of the best movies of all time called Shawshank redemption....there is very obvious hate on black led movies

As for the scenario you presented in the second paragraph, that sorta/kinda happens in If Beale Street Could Talk. It’s definitely a movie about institutionalization under the guise of a love story. And I fukked with it. Seen every one of Barry Jenkins’ movies, even the one a lot brehs won’t give a chance

just watched his interview about the movie. he said he took the role because its a freedom movie, not a slave movie. apparently the man he plays (his pic is famous for showing the lashes on his back), was free. Slavery had been abolished but the south wouldnt let it go, so many slaves knowing this, took matters into their own hands in various ways. many fled to towns where north soldiers were that were closing in on the confederates.
