Correction, Kendrick sold well over 100K independent prior to the interscope deal. :eat:

:usure:

Section.80 went on to sell 5,300 digital copies in its first abbreviated week, without any television or radio coverage and received mostly positive reviews

You half way right tho.

About a year later

Someone pointed out Tech N9ne. He's the correct answer. And before someone says :dwillhuh: "but he never sold 350k"....incorrect. He's been making music for close to 20 years and is legit rich because of it. He owns the type of shyt (Bentleys, etc) that most rappers rent.

Another good answer is E-40. Hell, someone could probably do a whole thread on Bay area rappers.

Macklemore will mostly likely not be around next year. So the question becomes, would you rather go gold once or have a career for 20 years?

first week, it's now well over 100K as an independent album

And it took for him to sign to Interscope & get a Major push for people to care enough to go back & listen to that... which would've *NEVER* happened had he not signed to Interscope...

Mac Miller sold well over 125,000 first week though... not 2 years later after a MAJOR release...

... Privilege. :mjpls:

He shows off his cars at auto shows around KC. Been doing it for a minute.

He has another one too I've seen in a video.

But we're not talking about a career. We're talking about a sizable BUYING fanbase. I know Tech N9ne got money, but his persistent grind got him that. But he never became mainstream to the point that he sold units AND sold out shows. is it too much to ask for both? Tech N9ne may be cool with just the longevity, and that's fine, but some want the big numbers too.
