most of these rappers have catalogs that will sound ridiculous in the mouth of someone over 40

a few will have lifelong careers though, a small handful. ceelo can perform forever off his catalog.

And what about all the skirt chasing, I'm a player type shut from bands like the Stones? Or the teen angst, oh poor me stuf from millionaire Nirvana types? Or the "ill love you forever" songs from a band where all the members have been divorced 5 times? Everyone has subject matter that they grow out of not to mention the actual sound of songs becoming dated, a shyt ton of 80s music sounds like crap IMO but a lot of mid 40 year olds love that shyt and will still go to a Boy George concert.

thing is, a basic "i love you sally", "living in a piss poor shack" song is some shyt anyone in any generation can go through and relate to.

rapping about strippers named malia, magic city hoes, "insert drug of the moment" (aside from marijuana which is timeless :smoker:), "insert liquor of the moment", "insert clothing brand of the moment" isn't a transferable experience that younger fans of the genre will relate to or want to hear. that's why i think earlier rappers could possibly still have success, a lot of them rapped about more general shyt, but the content right now is too vapid and "of the moment"

KRS-One - 47 been touring for 25 years and drops albums every 1-2 years.
Big Daddy Kane - 44 been touring for 25 years and is dropping an album soon.
Doug E. Fresh - 46 been doing shows for 28 years
LL - 45, been touring for 27 years and is about to drop an album so let's see what that tour is like

Jay-Z is 43 *cough* and still very relevant and packs large venues.

So it aint a far cry to say that one of these cats will still be doing it 20 years later sans maybe LL cuz he may be fully devoted to acting by then.

I don't think the content of the lyrics matters all that much.

People still pay to go and watch The Who (in their late 60's) sing "I hope I die before I get old" :skip:

K-Rino for sure.

A lot of musicians don't stop making music.

These old rock stars can still tour because they are/were icons of their culture. Their craft is also based on musicianship (Live instruments). As long as most of these guys are touring like it's karaoke, they won't make it in the long run.

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't everyone see 'Ye bomb at 11.11.11 show? Was it due to him being the wrong guy for that type of crowd? possibly. Or maybe it was because he was the only person performing without live instruments and jumping from song to song every 2 minuets. Think Bon Jovi, The Boss, or Eric Clapton cared to cram their whole catalog into their set?

Basically, longevity is due to status and talent. Neither are negotiable.

none of these rappers got the content to last that long

only person i see is Kanye

Wu Tang will be getting old and still performing like Parliament/Funkadelic....I could see kanye , Jay , Puffy and / or Nas getting old and still performing as well but on some Ozzfest type sh*t where they will have a bunch of new kids on the block performing first and then the star perfroming last and close the show.
