There's a lot of dudes out with really nice buzz, but can we really say any of these new cats are megastars?

I'm talking guys in this category

Jay
Kanye
Em
Snoop
Wayne
03 50 Cent
Outkast
Nelly

Any rapper will be on an uphill battle becoming a mega-star because twitter and really the whole new emergence of electronic media and social networking has somewhat limited the concept of stardom. The strongest and perhaps most potent form of communication and networking is word of mouth, and social networking had totally destroyed that concept.

Now that's not to confuse popularity with stardom. Today's rappers are popular as ever thanks to social networking. It's just that none of them have been able to establish their brand beyond being really popular. Think about when Jay dropped Vol. 2. Think about the aurora surrounding the pre-please of that. People were skipping school for the Marshall Mathers LP. What Wayne did with The Carter 3 was incredible. Kanye is the epitome of a megastar. Why is this? Well for one I think these newer rappers have taken on the "regular approach" and it's hurt their stardom. The public reacts better to individual who seem "special" or above average. I also think these newer rappers are nowhere near as visible to the public. This can be partly blamed on the decline of the music press shows like BET and MTV. But most of the blame goes to the decline of the music video. Music videos no longer have the ability to propel a song to a stature 2x beyond its reach. Then of course you consider the rise of online pirating. But you have to wonder why none of these new rappers can't sell out arenas? There are acts that sell very similar to your average rapper, yet they can sell out arenas but rappers can't....

Drake has a chance to reach megastardom, I'll say that he knocking on the door.

So, yeah there is a likely probability that there will be another mega star...but, it will be a very very rare thing until further notice

Yeah Id agree with Drake being the one to have a shot..

Idk even thought theres more ways for these rappers to get exposed now a days, it seems like the public is a lot more forgiving too though..

Examples being:
Wayne Kissing Birdman

Drake taking photos with his head in his boys lap

Ross being a C.O

Said this for years. Kanye's class is the last of the superstars in Hip Hop. The music industry has completely changed. Yeah you might have dudes selling records and in the public eye (Drake, Kendrick, etc..), but the era of superstars is all but gone.

Drake and Rick Ross have the most potential to the be next megastar.

Ross is only hit away :ohlawd:

He needs a smash hit plus a Hard Knock Life or Life After Death type album to propel him there.

Of course there will.

Jay
Kanye
Em
Snoop
Wayne
03 50 Cent
Outkast
Nelly

More than half the artists on your list popped off in the last 10 years during the download/napster/cdr era. The naysayers have been siting the decline in rap since 96 and it keeps producing more stars.

Give it some time.

:rudy: ROss had his chance with GFID and blew it

Drake and Nicki Minj are the closest ones. Or are they already megastars?

Future will be the next superstar in this shyt...maybe not Weezy status but he is on the rise
