He averaged 11 and 5 or some shyt his last year. He was done by 1988, for certain 1989

Yup. Kareem probably was best served retiring after 1988 when LAL won it all.

Getting swept by the Pistons in a re-match is a tough way to go out :francis:

He was 40 and 41 years old. If Duncan is still playing next year and the year after we might finally see that type of decline, but who knows..Karl Malone was still getting 20 and 8 at 40 :mindblown:

His game was tailor made for him to still be effective as he got up in years as long as his body could withstand the rigors of playing 82 games. And other then that little stretch a few years back where his knee was messed up and you could see a little decline (but not as much as people thought, it was mainly because of the knee injury) he has been the same impact player that he was in his prime just in lesser minutes. Now obviously he probably cant play 40 minutes a night and be as effective but that's why he doesn't. Pops manages his minutes just right and he never seems worn down at the end of the season and during the playoffs. I think he can play and still be effective even in his mid 40's.

I mean as a big man this is ridiculous. The only thing that has changed is his minutes, give dude 34 minutes a game and he'd still be putting up 20 and 10, I honestly thought this was the year he'd fade somewhat.

Duncan has been flabby and sick since 2009. He is still a very good player, but let's not act like he's anywhere close to where he used to be.

It's still impressive that he is playing this well at age 39.

6 mvp awards > 2 mvp awards. 25/11 career average > 19/11 average. Duncan is great, but he's not Kareem. Skyhook. All that needs to be said, and that comes from a big Duncan fan.

I cannot believe that someone is trying to make an argument that Timmay is better than Kareem. Kareem is arguably the only player that people would choose over MJ to start a franchise. He was that special of a player. We still haven't seen someone that can mimick what he did as a player. In fact, a real student of the game would start their franchise with a 22 year old Kareem. You plug and player all kinds of players and coaches and still win titles with him. I am saying this someone who thinks that Timmay is the best player post MJ era.
